Right now, i'm running virtual DJ and just playing around until I get some different software and control vinyl later this year.
I'm just running off a laptop and i'm new to the digital DJ thing. (I have some old 1200's that I spin though) What I want to be able to do is: have one song coming out some speakers and be able to listen the next song i'm going to cue up on my headphones (while the first song is playing). I guess I need a sound card for this.
So my question to all of you is: what is the most affordable sound card that I can get that isn't total garbage, can run on 64bit Vista, and let me cue up songs?
TIA,
Dan

The M-Audio Audiophile 2496 seems to be the defacto "bang for the buck" sound card, at least here anyway. Personally I have a Delta 1010LT, although it's $100 more.
Also, unless I misunderstood, finding the type of sound card that you're looking for would be rather difficult for a laptop. There are some external modules, but the ones I know of are either for sound quality only, a gimmick, or just won't work at all for your goal.

Hey, thanks for the input. I am looking for an external sound card, just to clarify.
I read in another thread that m-audio driver's are shitty. Do you know anything about it running on Vista?
Doesn't need to be anything fancy though, just needs to be external and be able to cue up and hook up to some speakers.

Like this? (if so, then disregard my previous statement)
M-Audio's drivers aren't the best, yes. I'm not sure about Vista, although I can say that their drivers for 7 have improved *cough*not by much*cough*. As for Linux, You don't even have to deal with their BS, just get alsa-tools and alsa-tools-gui; once you've got envy24control installed you're good to go.

Where value for money is concerned i'd definately go with M-Audio. It's as cheap as you can really get for pro-level sound cards.

I can pick one of these up for super cheap ($20) from a friend. http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-70SB049000000-SoundBlaster-External/dp/B00030099O Would this be sufficient enough to play around with virtual dj and play it out onto speakers? I heard it has terrible lag on vista though. :(

Which m-audio model is the cheapest?

The one mentioned, costs 40-50. However it only has 2 ouputs so you can't monitor on different outputs at the same time unless you use the digital outputs (and unless you have a device where you can use those connections then they are useless. Also that's not external, if you look on the M-Audio website you'll find something that has more than 1 pair of outputs. I'm don't know what external stuff they do but anything that has more than 1 pair of outputs will do. Then have a look to see where they sell them (M-Audio site is expensive).
