You should listen to the old stuff like Dead Kennedys. There's a band that didn't like the government (or anyone else):

Another band you can't miss is The Misfits. Most of their songs use 50s chord progressions with sinister lyrics. My personal favourite album is Earth AD/Wolfsblood (last four below are from that) which is a little darker than average, here's a bit of both
