In Cubase 5 I've run into a problem with short one-hits. It's hard to describe... basically, if the clip is any shorter than 1/16th, it becomes muffled sounding. Here's an example (The last three sounds are 1/32, 1/64, and 1/96 respectively. The sounds before that are all 1/16.):
http://www.4shared.com/file/167556970/3d806f0d/testing2.html While disabling musical mode somewhat fixes it, the non-musical mode version is loud and drawn out, and doesn't sound right at all. Any suggestions? It ruins my snare roll. :(

sounds like you have too much attack on the sample
if you're using a sampler, try loweing A in the ADSR
if it's audio, cut the beginning off

Chopping the beginning off (tried at various intervals) did nothing unfortunately. Shorter clips of it are still muffled.
