You will need: Kicks, Hi-Hats, Claps and Snares.
Try to do something like: KKS-KKS-KKS-KKS for the beginning, with Hi-Hats over it.
At the beginning I also found it hard but then the O-so-big Alex Sash came and gave me lessons lol. He gave me an mp3 file with different breaks on it which he had made, and then I had to remake them, and by trying to find the right sound, I discovered tons of possibilites and variations :) I guess that's the best way to learn!

Simple (in theory), think like a drummer.
Can a drummer, any drummer, play with precision timing? No, turn Quantize off.
Can a drummer control exactly how hard they hit their kit with every hit? No, change the velocities.
Can a drummer hit each drum (not including the kick) or cymbal in the exact same place every time? No, make slight changes in pitch.
Does a drummer clap or do they use a drum kit? Exactly, no claps. Kicks, snares, rimshots, hats, rides, crashes, toms. Those are a drummers tools. Unless it's 80s cheese you're going for in which case bang a gong :p
Load your favourite break into your DAW and try to recreate it exactly. Look at the waveform, take note of how far the hits are from the grid, the shuffle in the hats, how the hits differ in volume and pitch and try to replicate that...... or you could just use a sample ;)
You might wanna check dogsonacid.com out, lots of break samples, tutorials etc. In fact check there anyway, brilliant site for producers.
