Alllrighty then...!

In a few weeks I'm hosting a very exlusive music production class in north London. It's a 1-day event, based on a structured lesson about dynamics in dance music mixdowns.

We're talking compressors, limiters, gates, transient enhancers, etc. - but the aim here is not merely to describe the mundane, mechanical workings of those tools. This day will be a refreshing exploration into the different ways you can gracefully take charge of those unruly dB meters, in order to build mixes that have the kind of weight, punch, clarity and impact that you may have wanted to achieve for quite some time now...

You'll learn...:

* ...why so many producers talk about compressors as if they're the holy grail of music kit

* ...how to prioritise elements in the mix and squeeze extra volume out, whilst retaining clarity

* ...techniques and practise exercises to get the most out of dynamics processors

* ...how you can actually produce a professional sound without using any dynamics processors at all

+ MORE!

I teach in an easy-to-follow manner, and always non-sequencer specific, so that you can apply the teachings to whatever program / kit you choose straight away. I'll provide handouts, walk you through practical examples, and there will be ample opportunity to take notes.

The day will close with an open Questions & Answers session. Everybody in the room will have an opportunity to ask anything related to dance music creation, whether it be about chopping up samples, programming beats, or harnessing creativity.

Feel free to bring a demo if you want feedback!

As mentioned, this is a very limited event. At the current time of posting, there are only 5 seats left. I may well be doing future events on other subjects, but you can purchase entry to this event on Saturday 24th October 2009 at an introductory rate of £50 per head. We'll be running from 10am - 6pm. To secure your place, send an email with your contact details to hattrixx at hattrixx dot co dot uk with the subject: "I want to learn!".

My Credentials:

I generally like to keep myself to myself and not tell the world about my achievements, but I realise that working in the music industry from behind the curtain doesn't lend me much credibility as a teacher. So a bit about me...

Primarily a studio engineer, I've been producing since the mid 1990s.
Here's my studio (pics inside): http://www.hattrixx.co.uk/showpage.asp?pID=1078402831

My productions have been featured on major radio stations, including Kiss 100, Radio One, and Galaxy.

I've done work for numerous dance labels, including All Around The World and Ministry Of Sound.

Most of my clients do some form of rave music, so DJs who have supported their stuff include faces like The Ratpack, Kutski, Logan Sama, The Scratch Perverts.

Under various aliases I've won countless online production competitions, 1st place.

I also regularly write about music production and do sound design for these guys:

Those who know me consider me a good teacher.
Here's what people who've worked with me have to say: http://www.hattrixx.co.uk/showpage.asp?pID=-1745846509

Things are going very well for me at the moment. I've just been asked to write music for a major UK boy band, who have number #1s like it's no big deal.

I don't usually bear all, but I like to think I'm pretty open and approachable guy. If you have any questions whatsoever, you can contact me via hattrixx at hattrixx dot co dot uk...

Owen is a great teacher. I'd definitely attend this if I didn't live on another continent.

Hattrixx, would it be possible to record this semi-professionally to then sell videos with pdfs or whatnot? I'd happily pay to learn from you.
