been listening to a bit of both recently to broaden spectrum a bit. Have to say i was very disappointed in psytrance as a whole, wasnt at all what i was expecting. Its not very trancey at all, but has a much greater house feel to it.
Goa on the other hand was what i was expecting psytrance to sound like. flowing melodies that go on and on, never ending and forever changing. very melodic and had that trance "flow" to it that psytrance didnt have.
On the whole, i much preferred goa. its the kind of stuff that i could listen to for hours on end. the way it flows, with subtle mixing you wouldnt really know when one track would start and the other finish. wouldnt mind going to one of the australiens parties if this is the stuff they play.

when it comes to Goa / early PsyTrance I'd recommend Shiva Shidapu, Especially the 3 first Shiva Space Technology discs

completely agree. it's incredibly dark and very minimal , no melodies! which is why im not sure why i like it so much.. I usually like really melodic music and i don't always like dark music.
i think it's how crazily energetic it is with that kick , bassline and crazy FX

listened to a bit of dark stuff and that was exactly why i didnt like it. melodies can be very dark at times, which is what i was hoping for. found that goa stuff was dark and melodic at the same time.
