Get some decks, practice on them, release mixes or whatever...

you don't need software...

if your not djing yet, whats up with that username? ;)

software is for music production and "virtual" mixing
basic gear for DJing usually consists of

2 x Turntables
1 x Mixer
1 x Headphones

or

2 x CD Decks
1x Mixer
1x Headphones

or a combination of all the above

are you looking to DJ? or to produce music?

then your next question is do you want to go Vinyl, CD or MP3

mp3 you'll need to buy some software like Tracktor DJ Studio, or Virtual DJ

Vinyl, you'll need a pair of Turntables and a mixer

CD you'll need a pair of CD Decks and a mixer

if you go vinyl or cd you can still go mp3 by either buying vinyl emulation software/hardware like serato or final scratch - and if cd, of course you can burn them to CD or some CD decks have SD card slots or even Hard Drives built in

well i'd like to go mp3 first, but i would probably like CD but dont get me wrong, CD decks and a mixer can be generally expensive lol, so i would probably have to stick to mp3 for a while :P :)
