Hey I'm looking to create some new basses that actually sound good for once and I am wondering if anyone can give me a good little tutorial on creating hardcore basses. I'm just looking to know how many oscillators to use and what kind of waves. Thanks a bunch!

Which DAW are you using?
If you're on FL, you can use 3x osc with 2 or 3 oscillators. I prefer combinations of square, saw and round saw(the weird one ;)). Use the coarse tune knob and have for instance a square wave 12 semitones(1 octave) below a saw or round saw, just make sure the difference is 1 or 2 octaves, as different keys on different waves will cause trouble :p
Then you can throw on some filters and EQ to mould the sound to whatever you desire, and you can also layer bass sounds, so you have one pretty clean sound and then another 3x osc channel with another bass sound that has more filters on, and copy paste the piano roll to this other sound. Just experiment and you'll find something you like ^^

on logic use the ES1 and ESM or use a bass Sample that sounds verry buzzy and import it into ESX24 and layer that with ESM , ESM is great for covering lowend or can probs program something into ES1 both do the job well

yeah that's an OK tutorial but the way the oscillators are detuned is wrong....?
they should both be at 9 oclock not one at 0 and one at -12

Uhhh putting them both at 9 would just make them lower and at the same pitch anyway. Why not leave them both at 0 and then when you place them on the piano roll they would actually be at the note that they are supposed to be. I'm sure you obviously know that having one at 0 and one at -12 is just an octave lower its just like stacking two single oscillator notes on top of eachother. That makes much more sense that putting both at 9.

Well, the point is to detune them by the same amount, so that they're phatter

So couldn't you detune them both to -12 so that you'd get the same effect but still have the same not on the piano roll?

If you put them both at -12 you'd just be lowering it an octave and it would sound shit
By putting 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock (for example) you're detuning the sound. Its still the same note on the piano roll!
Detuning if a very common practice in edm, it allows sounds to be phatter. If you do it too much it sounds like shit though.

The detune is different from the coarse tune. The coarse tune changes note position, detune is more subtle.
