The fast hitting chords that are a staple of oldschool rave music, you know the like. I was wondering if anyone could provide or link to a crash course on chords usually used or how to get that sound.

http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm

Piano chords - Can't say i know exactly what was most commonly used, i think it's just in the arrangement. Those "duh-d-d-d-duh---duh-d-d-d-duh---duh-d-d-d-duh---duh-d-d-d-duh" piano lines. I believe 7ths were used quite often, though. That's pianos anyway. If you're after those stabs sounds, just get some samples, or put your own together in a synth, and put em on the offbeat. If you're using proper Old Skool stab samples you won't need to chord them.

Tbh would be better if you posted a clip and pointed out exactly what you're after. Your descriptions a bit too vague mate.

Do you mean major chords? They're pretty common as major chords have that happy feel to them :p

Ok.

Grab this: http://cubic-audio.info/node/3. Nice free ravey piano. Try the 7ths like i said, but don't be limited by them. You can make almost any chords sound ravey so long as the progression and notation is right. However i find minors more suitable for the sound you're after, majors is much more Happy Hardcore area.

Lay down your chords, whatever they may be, wherever you want. Just to give an example of a track i'm messing about with atm though.

Draw in a Fm7th chord on 1.1, 1.4, 2.3. Then draw in a Gm7th on 3.1, 3.4 and 4.3. Oh yeah Reverb and Delay it up good an proper. Now draw in an F note on it's own on 1.3 and 2.2 so just before the Chords you hear the root note of that chord playing. Do the same for the G. If you want you can also copy the singular notes down to play another note from the chord, but an octave below the chord. So copy and paste the singular F and G notes down to C and D respectively.

Should look like this

Here's a quick FLP I've just done based on the sample you put up. It's not totally correct but it'll give you an idea of what to do: http://www13.zippyshare.com/v/98814484/file.html

Have a look at using anything past maj7 in FL they tend to give you that nice chunky old skool sound.
