Okay so yea, I have a problem burning CD's.

I remember some months ago, I had burn a CD ( to play on the CDJs ) and one of the songs was totally ( or very ) distorted, and very bad quality. I thought it was because of the song, well I actually didn't really bother with it.

Anyway, it happened again to me with 2 other songs. The rest sounds normal.

I don't think it has anything to do with the CDJs as the songs were already distorted when I played them directly on the computer ( trough the CD I had just burn ).

What do you think how this happened and how can I fix it ?
Or is it maybe because of the songs ? I don't think it has anything to do with the format, since I burn audio CDs, which means everything is being converted into.. wav or aiff, I dunno exactly now..

Please help me if you can, this is urgent, I need those 3 songs to work on my CDJs as I have already prepared a mix for tomorrow night, when I'm playing live. And I don't wanna waste hundreds of CDs on tests >.<

Thx,
~Revs

what file format are they in before you burn them? do they sound ok before you burn them? what program are you using to burn them?

have you tried saving the song in a different format?

They are MP3, yeah they sound ok before and I'm using Toast Titanium.

Yeah I thought they were AIFF so I converted them to MP3, however they were already MP3 ( They've been converted to AIFF while burning the CD and I guess I've just seen "song.aiff" so I converted them, but.. yeah, that doesn't change anything ).

I could convert them to AIFF but I don't know if that's really usefull.

Once it was done ( with the burning ), there were some strange icons beside those tracks. You know like a "file damaged" icon. The other tracks had a normal iTunes icon or something similar.

I really don't understand that :S

I've heard of people having trouble with toast titanium, their service support sucks.

have you tried burning them through itunes?

Just use itunes burner at the slowest speed, it'll give you the best quality it can give you.

Ha you learn something new everyday.

Well I'll try with iTunes then, and at a lower speed.

Umm, when you burn faster it doesn't "compress" it more. It simply creates more opportunities for write errors and buffer underruns. Music burned to a CD is in RAW format. It's not compressed in the usual way we interpret that word.

Is this a "legal" mp3? Because sometimes burning software has trouble dithering from 48kHz/96kHz mp3s, which are often encoded by noobs (CDs are 44,1kHz). If that's the case, convert it from 48 to 44,1 in a good audio app and it should be fine.

Well, all 3 tracks are unreleased I think so I got them directly from the producers.

I'll try it, thanks.

And it only happens with those specific tracks?

Yes.

But I fixed the problem : I imported the tracks in Logic, bounced them, and burned them. Works now :)

Yeah, it was probably because they were at the wrong samplerate

switching between samplerates is a lossy process so you should try to always encode everything at 44,1
