Okay, so I just got the Zenhiser Old school Hardcore stabs and whatnot package, and the samples are AWESOME but they are not labeled as which note or chord they are. What's the best way to get them all on the same pitch? I'm having a hell of a time with it.

Free VST that detects what key the note is played in. I imagine if you use it in conjunction with http://www.gvst.co.uk/gsnap.htm then you can change the key of the sample too.

Cool will check this out. Noice one mate.

@Jackol: You could try matching the stab with a note played on your synth without any detune etc. I've found these sort of stabs can be a little tricky for a plug-in or bit of software to get an accurate pitch for, whereas matching it up yourself will make sure it's the note you want it at. That's how i have to tune my guitar now since i broke my tuner :(

Alternatively check these out:

Every stab sample is labeled with the notes, plus there's a few single drum hits and breakbeats thrown in. Excellent pack imo, definitely worth the money.

yeah just play the sample and hum it in your head while going through the keys on a keyboard till you find out what note it is. Works for me.

Can you not work by ear? It makes no difference to me what pitch anything is at, i just use my ears to match the notes etc...
If you can do this then you don't need to do what your doing at all.

Once I can figure out which note they're on I have no problem matching with the rest of the song. But in FL Studio, the tuning knob for samples is fairly coarse so it's hard to pinpoint like you can with a guitar.

I love your sig!! LOL

Casting bolts! HAHA!!

I haven't used FL for a while, but surely you can select the root note of the sample in the sampler? Last time I used it there was a little keyboard with an orange note which defined the root note of the sample....

You don't even need to do that though, since you can move the note around freely in the piano roll anyway and it plays every note, unlike in say Halion or something where you have to set the key zone.
If you have no trouble using your ears i still dont see the problem lol.

yeah but its nice to set the root note to the correct one so if layering, its nice and simple.

Its just an aesthetics thing. Once something is in the digital audio domain, its open to all sorted of unholy abuse.

But its nice to able to move a riff from one instrument to another and still be in the same key.

=]
