I have been thinking with the recent news on the main page and also with the growing download culture, could we add a new category within the medal's to add a Digital Producer/Artist medal?
Obviously it would have to fall into certain categories similar to the vinyl release medals, IE if the track is sold on the usual MP3 download sites such as IMO, Beat Port etc.

Well if taken seriously it would have to meet similar requirements to the current artist medals such as be signed to a label, be sold on a legitimate online store etc but seen as though it's basically been vetoed already what's the point.

The point is that anyone who is anyone can establish a "record label" on IMO and distribute whatever they want; theres no quality control.
I agree it'd be a good idea, i just don't know how it'd work.

Yeah, there would have to be established a list of qualified labels that you could get signed to. I mean, the obvious ones being digital affiliates to pre-existing vinyl labels. Self-started labels are probably going to be written off as not legitimate. At least, that's how I'd see them.

I wouldn't mind it, but I can't draw the line on "quality" because who decides that? Plus the I would need a mod or person just dedicated to check that... there is so much out there.

I think leto is right, it should just be established digital labels, not self-starters.
If you need a mod for that i vote leto considering as he does so ****en many digital reports anyway

Dont understand this :s
So if my mate started a label and released loads of crap that I produced, would that be eligible? Because thats not a self-starter, thats me releasing material on a label I have nothing to do with.

"empyre records" comes to mind
http://www.happyhardcore.com/records/record_labelprofile.asp?action=labeldisplay&labelsid=700 empy spends $1500 of his own money to get 500 odd pressings of sean apollo's first song on vinyl ever, thats when sean got his artist medal there used to be a discogs entry for it...but for some reason its gone and no longer on seans discogs hehe ---- so in that respect - you can self promote yourself buy spending some cash and getting your own track pressed, slap a label on it and get yourself an artist medal that way :P

What is established? What you consider good and the next person is different, I'm sure 95_was_the_time would hate every track out there that was made from any label. It has to be a hard and fast rule... something like
x many releases
x many different artists
x many sales
x many sites
... and have nothing to do with quality or "established", but that still doesn't mean I couldn't make a fart label and sign different farts from different people and then buy it 30 times myself... that aside the admin and checking alone in making sure an artist is has a legit release is too much to ask already.
I'm not against doing it, but you can see the issues...

What i feel,
I feel that this is a good idea, personally.
There must be a moderator in order to assign medals appropriately, such as Leto (who already does the digital reports)..
I think this is a great idea, and if managed properly, i dont see why this cant happen

Easy to point the finger and say you do it, we dont have a digital reporter at the moment.
