What is the most expensive, best, most bad dog program to produce music? Right now I'm using Fruity Loops but it doesnt do quite everything I want it to.
I am thinkin' about buying Reason is that good?

that'll be pro tools. you can make tunes on that but it's meant for multi track recording really. be warned, you need a good pc to run it. this pc just meets the minimum requirements, celeron 566 with 128mb ram

Protools is CRAP unless you buy the complete protools studio setups.. ie the soundcard and external breakout boxes.. or the 10k complete setups etc.. not only that but the last time they updated the damn thing was almost two years ago.
if you want hardcore software try Logic audio 5.13/Cubase 5.1
OR you can wait for cubase SX which looks damn nice
btw i have tried the new reason 2.0 prerelease beta, its nothing flash, same old shit.. two new devices, no biggie :( kinda sad really, they had a good thing for a while there.
others you can try that are still a LOT better than fruitypoops are:
Sonic Syndicate Orion Pro 3
Nuendo 1.5.something
Cakewalk Sonar 2.0 XL
Reason 1.0.1
FYI: the only protools you can get for a pc without the protools hardware is the free version, most audiophiles will spit if you mention it.
-my (somewhat educated) opinion anyways

i didnt know Orion 3 was out yet??
cool!
as for software, there are heaps out there now...
now for a full production kinda app, id have to agree with Lusice and say Logic, however, many SW sequencers are good such as Cubase and CWSonar... and soon to be Reason2.0 (with granular synth;) )
now it really depends on the way u create your songs as to which direction you can take.. i mean u can go Orion, which is fuggin awsome and create a series of loops and sequence those, or u can go linear like logic or Sonar, but remember, if using a Sequencer like CW, logic or cubase, youll need sounds.. whether they come from ur soundcard, or plaugin instrument or whatever, thats more money out...
whereas with reason and Orion, theres no need for any extras as they come equiped with synths/sampler/efects etc
fruity loops isnt the be all and end all of music making, and im surprised its lived this long considering IMO its such a boring piece of SW to use...
personally i use Orion 2.7, with loads of VSTi's like Pro52, Junglist, scorprion.2 a great freebie called Junox2 (looks like shit, but sounds like a juno6) and a million others i found over the years...
mind u i only create loops using this and sample tehm into my HW, but still the ease of use and layout format, make Orion the prime choice for someone without too much experience.
I wouldnt recommend Cubase to someone who has no clue about midi or the way midi paramaters and controllers nrpns etc work (not to say u dont about midi), but im speaking in general.
just coz something is expensive dont mean its the best, ive got some synths which are freeware, which make Reason sound like a fart after a bad curry...

yeah acids not too bad...
the way it works is that its a wav file sequencer... well audio anyway, coz u can throw in mp3s too...
ITs DX effect compatible, and is quite good for when u need to sequence snippets here and there...
mind u the only midi it send out is time, not note, so u cant control ur external gear with it. not a bad app at all actually, alot of poeople who create loop based music use this...
they create their loops with software, hardware whatever, and thow the loops in here, and as it automaically adjusts pitch and time to suit the track, most of the hard work resampling the loop for correct timing, is done for you

I have recently attempted to use FL, but cant get my head around it. Thats probably because i am use to software such as Ejay and Magix music maker which i was using untill recently untill i said "wait a minuite........this is crappy and i wanna make my own samples to use in tracks that are my own and are not crappy!"
What software do you (anybody out there!!) sugest for sum1 like me (mainly me!) who is used to the comercial side of software, but wants to move on (BTW: i got a midi keyboard)
