This is kinda for silver, or anyone else that started a label. I just got my hands on a screaming lil laptop and now i want some toys. So far ive got two pcs networked together. Now all i need is some recording software, it think, thats were you guys come along. WHat exactly would i need to start a label? Would i need a vinyl cutter, or could i get a company to do that for me once i have the finished product? I dont know guys...........but id really like to own a recording company some day.............there i go getting a head of myself.

If you want to start a label all you need is good connections to record stores/distributors and a good place to go to to get vinyl cut and sleeves designed. For software recording get Soundforge and you'll need a good recording card like a Delta 66 or something like that. An external Pro compressor couldn't hurt either.
If you wanna start a studio you need to get either Logic Audio or Cubase for software. Then you need at least 1 good sampler and 1 good synth. For a smapler get either Kontakt (soft-sampler) or an Akai or Emu brand 'hard sampler". For a synth I strongly suggest either an Access Virus B or C or a Novation Supernova :)

If you are a producer I recommend you release your tunes on established labels first for two reasons:
1. You can't loss any money
2. Your name (production) will be promoted on that label and get out into the public...

silver, yeah i was told that was the best way to do it
buuuuuuut
if the labels your style reflects (for me, nunrg, and possibly hectech for hardness) wont take your tunes or you have a full release schedule and your sure they will sell, or you just dont wanna be told, "Yeah ill release it, just change this bit, tone this down a tad" then DIY label is the best way to go :)
its the way im gonna try and go
get some money behind it first tho heh

Find a label that suits your style, yes they might have a full schedule, but if the tune is good enough they might drop you onto a "Gold" or "best of" release and release it straight away.... I have a schedule until MasterWax 10 but I will shuffle if the track is good enough... take MWX003, I switched MWX003 and MWX004 because MWX004 second remix is not completed yet...
Ask any label owner, schedules always change :)
