Oh boy! My overt knowledge of classic house will come in handy! (Didn't know Inner City was from Detroit though. They definitely had a more Chicago sound.) As for similar house artists from Detroit, the only ones I can think of are Rhythm Is Rhythm (famous for the track "Nude Photo") and Kevin Saunderson's early stuff as Reese. There are also similar artists from the Chicago scene like Adonis, Chip E, Farley Jackmaster Funk, and the Jungle Brothers. A good compilation for this sort of stuff is called "The History of the House Sound of Chicago". 6 CD compilation of tracks ranging from the early disco stuff to UK acid (stuff like "Acid Man" by Jolly Roger or "We Call It Acieed"), really cool stuff (though with some terribly cheesy stuff on there too.)

look out for the Deep Heat series on ebay (think there were 6 or 7 released) I've got the first 3 on tape (CD's were to posh for me in them days) but they have loads of the early rave/acid/hardcore/dance stuff that I listened to! and have some proper classics on them!
