Event name: Women on Wax
Starts: August 24th, 2007
Country: United States

In celebrating 5 years of our annual Women on Wax event, we are proud to present a rare lineup of ladies representing various styles from all across North America. We have always taken pride in showcasing top-notch and up and coming artists, and this year we are enthralled to bring you a vast array of both. These ladies all have exceptional and raw talent, and represent everything that we feel a leading lady in electronic music should. They are beautiful inside and out, yet you will be captivated by their skills and their tracks, not their beauty. We welcome you to join us for an evening of friends, family, relentless beats, and intense performances!

Lineup:

Punisher - Hej, Seismic, Matrix - TECHNO - Detroit, MI - www.myspace.com/mspunisher
Hailing from Detroit, Michelle Herrmann, a.k.a. techno legend Punisher, is an uncompromising artist and truly gifted producer. From her career's onset in 1993 at only 15 years old, Michelle has set a precedent of raising the bar high for all things Punisher through flawless productions and floor burning dj and live performances.
Very early in her career, it became apparent that simply djing would not be enough to contain Michelle's artistic creativity and prowess. In 1996 and 1997, within two years of her first turn on the tables, Punisher put out her first two 12 inch EPs on Detroit based label Matrix records. Seeking to push forth the concepts of sound and motion, in 1998 Michelle and Mike Brickner, a.k.a. Cozmic Spore, launched the seminal Detroit label, Seismic Records. The label quickly gained much international and critical respect and collaboration from many world renowned djs and producers. Seismic has seen releases from the likes of the Advent, Bryan Zentz, and Andrei Morant and collaborations with legendary Vapourspace producer Mark Gage. Through licensing by the likes of Dave Clarke and Bill Nasty, Seismic developed into a strong international techno label.
Michelle musical energy is currently being propelled into her newest undertaking, the founding of a new label, HEJ RECORDS (www.hejrecords.com), with Matt Caputo, a.k.a. the Overfiend. Hej was founded with a unique vision 'to make a mark in the evolution of musical energy'. Hej will see its premiere EP releases in 2007, with Michelle's track 'Hejiling' as the first track. The label will put forth a huge onslaught of both vinyl and net tracks from a wide range of International and Midwestern talent. Punisher's music has also landed her guest dj spots on several radio stations, including world giant XM Satellite Radio. 2007 will culminate for Michelle with the release of her first ever full-length album of original tracks.
To back the momentum of her constant stream of releases, Punisher travels the world djing and performing her masterful live sets. Her sound, a unique blend of techno, electro, and her first style drum n' bass, has resonated on dance floors from the United States to Canada, Europe and Latin America. Michelle has literally pummeled walls of sound alongside artists such as Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch, Marco Carola, Ben Sims, Adam Beyer, Misstress Barbara, Richie Hawtin, Dave Clarke, Derrick May, T-1000, Gaetano Parisio, and many others. Through expression of her art, both touring and producing, Punisher is continuing to assert her dominance in the techno realm.

Jen Mas - Vitus, Females Wit Funk - HARDCORE TECHNO - NYC - www.myspace.com/dj_jenmas
Founder of this very special event, this year not only marks this 5 year anniversary of her celebration of female artistry, but it also is the 10 year anniversary of her tireless dedication to the NYC electronic music scene. Her first event took place July 31, 1997, and she's spent the past decade organizing many parties big and small, and also working hard pushing the harder dance sounds playing countless shows all across the US and Canada. In the past decade she has devoted herself to perfecting her craft - sharpening her skills as a DJ - and it shows in her flawless and intense mixing skills and turntablist techniques. And her hard work and unique style has not gone unnoticed, as she was voted one of the top 20 female DJs in the world by Shejay magazine, and is a featured artist of the Canadian-based female turntablist collective Females Wit Funk. Not one to leave her friends and associates behind, she's also put much energy and focus into creating and building the reputable and well-respected artist and production crew Vitus.
Jen has always been a big supporter of female talent, and has set out to inspire more women to follow suit and get involved in the scene. To do so she's pummeled down any preconceived notions that spinning records is a male-dominated art form, since she's proven that girls can rock out just as hard or just as well as the boys. She has worked hard to become one of America's top hardcore DJs and has played alongside the best of the best, but her gender has never played a role in her success. While she does embrace her femininity and seeks out other females in the scene, she feels music is a universal language and should not be limited to any one group of people. Even so, she remains one of the few females in the world dominating the hardcore sounds, which in the end proves it only takes one thing to make it to the top - dedication.
Never being satisfied and not one to settle, she is currently spending extensive time in the studio working hard to complete tracks for her upcoming label. She hopes to showcase the sounds of the next generation of hardcore, techno, and drum and bass, along with inspiring new artists to also contribute to the future sounds of electronic music. Be on the lookout for many more events and projects to come from her and her crew Vitus in the near future.

Chiclet - Terror Inc., Purple Heaven, Numb - HARD TRANCE & HARDSTYLE - Toronto, Canada - www.myspace.com/djchiclet
Over the past 10 years, Chiclet has worked her way through countless raves, club residencies, and special events to become one of Toronto's most recognized and versatile DJs. She has held residencies at Toronto's Viva Nightclub and has performed alongside many world-class DJs including Sam Punk, Lady Dana, Cosmic Gate, DERB, M.I.K.E., DJ Wag, and many more.
With her specialty being Hard Trance, Chiclet is also known to masterfully blend several different genres including Electro, House, and Breaks. A unique mixing style technical prowess, eclectic track selection, the eagerness to experiment, and a vibrant, often quirky stage presence make Chiclet a welcome addition to any event.
In 1997, with a single turntable, a cheap mixer, and an even cheaper CD Walkman, Chiclet taught herself to spin. She practiced and practiced until she went to Queen's University and played some of her very first gigs in Kingston, Ontario. Small Raves were her staple until the year 2000, when she won the Eyespin DJ Competition and gained enough recognition to play at larger parties in Toronto, as well as guest spots on Global Groove Radio and 1groove.com, and a residency with Purple Heaven Productions. In 2001, she moved back to Toronto to attend Ryerson University for Radio & TV Arts and became a resident a Film Lounge. She supplemented her residency playing several after-hours parties around Ontario and Quebec. In 2003, Purple Heaven Productions disbanded and Chiclet focused on music and video production. In 2004, Chiclet became a resident at Room 19 in Markham, playing mainly Hard Trance. Most recently, she has had residencies at Viva Nightclub, one of Greater Toronto's premier clubs with one of the best intelligent lighting systems in the province, and Club246 Radio (100.7FM, Toronto). Currently, she is focusing on honing her production and turntablism skills, and her energetic and exciting performances are not to be missed!

Connie - Halcyon, Ku-deta, Vital - TECH-HOUSE - NYC - www.myspace.com/conster72
Born and raised in Queens, New York City, Connie appeared in the house music scene five years ago and has become a familiar face in the NYC underground house scene. Connie has spun her eclectic mix of funky house, tech house, electro, acid, minimal and techno all over the world and alongside the most talented DJs/producers, like Vincenzo, Jeff Bennett, Konrad Black, Terry Mullan, Jesse Rose, Adultnapper, Nick Warren, Patrick Chardronnet, Martinez, Jay Tripwire, Jason Jinx, Chris Duckenfield (SWAG), Collette, DJ Ali, Sean Dimitrie, Nigel Richards, Mazi, and the Hacker to name but a few. Currently, she spins regularly at NYC's top venues like Crobar, Pacha, and Sullivan Room, to name a few. Connie has also spun outside of NYC, in San Francisco, Miami, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Vancouver, Ibiza, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Prague, Mexico, and most recently, BRAZIL!!! In March 2006, Connie won the Village Voice DJ Spinoff Contest and spun at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. In March 2007, Connie spun at the infamous Sunday School for Degenerates party at the Pawnshop in Miami, opening the terrace for an all-star line-up! She will be spinning in Germany this summer.
When she first became a part of New York's dance scene, Connie was shocked to see how few women were DJ-ing the many parties around town. Never one to settle, she has been teaching women to spin for over two years. To date, Connie has had 15 students. In addition, Connie is teaming up with Halcyon Record Store to foster and promote local female DJs via an event called "Ladies' Night," which features a new female DJ spinning on-site every Thursday.
We are proud to host another female in the scene avidly supporting and encouraging up and coming female artists.

Hara iSiS - Black Tide, SSP PDX - DRUM AND BASS - Portland, OR - www.myspace.com/haraisis
Hara iSiS is a sure force to be reckoned with, spinning the darkest and hardest Drum and Bass and has made herself a recognized name by many in the DnB scene. She keeps the dancefloors packed and heads banging when she's on the decks. The only middle eastern female Drum and Bass DJ to come out of the Kingdom of Bahrain, she is truly one in a million. Formerly known as Tsai, iSiS started spinning in 2002 and by 2004 opened up for the world renown DJ Dieselboy in Tulsa, OK. With a limited amount of exposure to be heard in the electronic scene of Tulsa, she recently relocated to the more junglist-friendly city of Portland. Since her move she has become very involved in her local scene and has decided to start her own production crew, Black Tide Productions. With a fast growing fan base and skills to be reckoned with, she has surely gotten off to a strong start in her career. Her fierce stage presence and relentless mixing abilities will leave you consumed with both excitement and fatigue. Come witness the ferociousness of this new breed of talent blowing audiences away with only 5 short years of experience.

Mama C - Vitus, Groove Therapy - HARDCORE & DRUM AND BASS - NYC - www.myspace.com/mama_c
Mama C is a Northeast favorite who's played shows all across the East Coast and Midwest. Never being able to pick one style, she remains faithful to both genres of hardcore techno and drum and bass and represents both sounds to the fullest. Her fierce track selections and impeccable mixing are always a crowd pleaser, and her raw to the core cuts will keep dancers and partygoers glued to the dancefloor. Spinning for 7 years now, she has recently started branching out and playing at industrial shows, and has taken her first stabs at producing as well. Her fascination with the darker elements of dance music along with her keen ear for diversity sets her apart from the rest, and her unique performances are a great addition to any event. Not one to follow the norm, her career is sure to continue on a creative and interesting path for years to come, with a growing fan base of bassheads and gabber lovers alike. A valued Vitus member for several years now, she is the only other female resident at this celebrated event.
