Reviewing as i'm listening:
Ooh, that is waay to slow to pull of that kick.
And those MIDI drums.
Ruh roh! I think I done heard some silence! Definite no no there (unless you're doing a sudden drop in a hard acid song)
Main synth sounds like a z3ta preset.
Pad is cool, but out of key with the synth (or is it just that I don't like the riff)
Not enough build going on with the synths.
The riff is too major, at least in the way it resolves. Have it resolve on a semitone or two lower and it'll sound cooler.
Where's the bass?
No variation in the synth or riff or anything really.
Wow, I'm really tempted to be an overly harsh bastard here, but I'll leave it be at that you're just inexeperienced. A few suggestions:
Use some samples of a TR 909 for your drum sounds when doing trance or hardcore. They sound so much better than what you're currently using. (I think K Complex posted a sample of a samplepack of his on his website that has some fantastic kicks in it. And if you'd like, just PM me and I can send you a bunch of TR 909, TR 808, and TR 606 samples.)
You need a bassline. Badly. To keep it simple, just go with a bass at the root note of the key you're working in on every off beat. To give it the necessary donk, just make two squarewaves, one an octave beneath the other, and put a 24db lowpass on it.
While the synth sound you were using was allright (though it needs some tweaking), you need another. For this, I suggest getting that great epic sound by putting as many saw waves you can (some an octave below) together with a 12db lowpass and huge amounts of delay and reverb, and layering it on top of the current synth sound. Also, be willing to change up the melody later in the song after a brief break. As tempting as it can be to just loop one synth throughout a whole song, changeup is necessary.
To make transitions smoother, throw on some reversed crash cymbals with delay on them when you want to move the energy up, and a solo reversed crash with delay when you want to bring it down.
Speed it up a little bit too. The average trance song is between 135 and 145 bpm (a little higher for hard trance and psy)
And definitely make the riff resolve on a minor instead of a major. Pure major sounds like shite 99% of the time in electronic music.
Hope that was helpful!
