Big difference between just wholesale stealing of a tune and using ideas/influences from others.
Plenty do both - but it's the latter that's acceptable.

At the end of the day someone who takes an idea someone and runs with it turning it into something of their own deserves praise. Even if the original idea was someone elses to beging with. One who blatently steals something and says it's their own is plain and simple a fraud.
