I currently baught an "Stanton SMX-401." An "Pioneer CDJ-200" (saving up for second one).
I was wondering how do people do those special effects and such, remixing the tracks right on spot and such. Am I able to do anything with my setup?
Oh, and I've seen this equipment, I think it's roland, not sure. It's white/gray? It has a pad in the middle, where when you touch it, a sound comes out, anyone know where to get one of those, and what it does?
heres a image:
doesn't seem like a roland actually..
Thanks.

remixing the track? you'd need a computer program to remix like tracktor or live to remix a track on the spot...unless your talking about effects like filtering and flanging....and no you can't do that with your setup
the pic looks like a korg kaoss pad, you can do all sorts of stuff with it depending on what you plug it into. you can record pad movements and transform them, sample and add effects, add synths and vocoder effects, add filter, delays, reverb....depends on where you live as far as where to order one from, good music stores should carry or be able to order them

special effect like delay and flanger are most of the time on a cd deck itself.. least at the plaeces where i come.. but you can buy an thingy looks like ur mixes with sum eeffect also sum dj's use virtual dj or traktor on a pc nxt to there decks (i recommedate traktor its kick ass! altho vdj got sum nice efx)
but on the other hand you could use a synthesizer

so the kaos kord pad, can add effects and sounds on the spot? cause damn, its 400 dollars.... where does it plug into?

$400 for the pad isn't bad...you could always look at used gear, and I've seen places online for cheaper
you can plug it into the mixer, line/cdj, phono, or mic...it has rca jacks in the back for the line in
you should look for mixers/cdjs with effects units in them...most of them (atleast the good ones) start around $500 ex. mixers pioneer djm500/600, numark 5000/cdjs pioneer cdj 1000, numark cdx
I'd probably go with getting a mixer or a pad so you can have control over both channels instead of just one deck.

Oh, I do have a mixer... well, I'm just starting so, I'm low on money, heh...
I payed 174 for "Stanton SMX-401."
And paying around 600 for two "Pioneer CDJ-200s."
The CDJ's have three effects, Jet, Zip, Wap. Jet seems to be the most useful...
So, I'd probably get a Korg Kaos Pad, Cheapest I found is for 300 dollars, I guess it isn't as bad.
So, I would need a Digital vinyl cd player in order to be able to do those effects? cause those are out of my league for now, haha.
I'm also saving up for a Roland sequencer, so i can start composing as well.
mm oyea, if the cdj has the ability to read mp3s, is it wiser to burn mp3s to have more songs on 1 cd? or keep them cd quality? and what if there is a song u want to play next but u are playing a song on it on the 1 cd? .... lol would one burn two of the same disc? this been on my mind for some time.

if you're just starting out I'd recommend not buying effects units, get the hang of beat matching and djing first before you start to add fx.
if you're wanting to mix a song into another you need 2 different sources, so it can't be on the same source/cd
you want to keep the audio quality as high as possible, most of the cds I use to play out with only have 1 or 2 songs per cd

Damn, guess I'm pretty limited on effects. I just checked out my local music store, and played around with the Pioneer MK's. Those seem to have the vinyl effects I'm looking for, but its so expensive, hahah. I'm gonna still get the korg kaoss pad, seems to add nice effects during DJ. thx for the info guys. hopefully i can get beatmatching down in 6 months.
