Hiya guys. lookin for a half decent pair of decks for around £250-£300 seen vestax but don't know if i can get aset in my price range.. in this price it would be helpful if there was a decent (a working!) mixer included.. so you could say a package, or what combinations would anyone recommend for that budget?
Thanks in advance guys

I have to say I'm thoroughly dissapointed with my Vestax PDX-2000's.
They were great when were first bought. But now both of them are majorly toast. Barely work. My Vestax Mixer (VMC-004) and my Vestax CDJ are both PHENOMINAL though!

You wont find a package with a decent mixer anywhere near that price but that doesnt matter or decent decks for that matter.
You want to spend as much as you can on decks. Dont worry to much about the mixer because you will want to upgrade that at some point in the future.
Have a look for some second hand technics on ebay that way you will never have to upgrade your decks only your mixer. You should be able to get a pair of tech's from the bay for £300-£350
You should be looking at saving more money before making your purchase because it will save you money in the long run. If you buy a package for £250-£300 you will probably at some point find yourself buy better decks and def an better mixer if you keep going with djing. If you decide djing is not for you then you will make more money back on the techs and mixer than you would on some entry level direct drive package.

Where the hell can you find relatively cheap CDJ's? (£200-£400)
ebay doesn't give such good results, anyone got any alternative links?
I've been told time and time again that they are more cost effective than vinyl decks...or is that just in the resourceful sence?

your proably looking at £450-500 for a decent pair of cdj's new. So ebay i would think would be your best bet.
http://www.djstore.co.uk/ Probably the best on-line store for dj equipment

Tech's dont break as a rule. You here stories of people using tech's that are nearly 30 years old.
If your just starting out consider going cd's or software as vinyl is dying. Cd's & mp3's are cheaper and if you dont live near a decent vinyl stockist you want pay nearly as much if any postage cost.

Basically, trucking them back and forth between my rent's places every week. Throw 'em in a flight case, throw 'em in a car, unpack at home. One of them (now out of warranty) refuses to play forward. It will reverse every 5 seconds, then go forward, etc. etc. The second one has a very stuttered startup, very slow. Not what I thought I paid for. All I'm saying is I'm very upset that I didn't opt for technics as my main decks. With Technics, you can send them in once a year for a refurb. Vestax? 1 year warranty. Pfah.

i do live relatively near to many vinyl shops... i see the point of vinyl dying... but for the sake of a few hundred(to me its a lot) i am happy to pay for a few years good hardcore listening, as when i went to spininn, they had better tunes than i'd heard in my whole life on vinyl. i've grown up listening to hardcore.
So, i would REALLY like to avoid Cdjs and mp3, mainly cos mp3, just seems to me, well sort of the lazy mans way.. id rather be hands on if you know what i'm saying, and secondly, CDJs really don't appeal to me, not sure why, but vinyl i think is the route id like to take... thanks for your opinions... over to ebay... also anyone know any good 2nd hand shops for stuff like that around manchester??

OK here's my advice (as someone who's owned countless sets of decks)
you have two choices:
1) get REALLY bad decks for as cheap as possible
-if you can learn to mix on pieces of crap you'll feel like superman when you play on technics 1200s
-this is the path I took...I regretted it after cause I constantly had to upgrade (wasting money in process)
-->if you do this you're better off getting the cheapest you can get and making sure you can sell them for what you bought them for so you don't waste money
2) get Technics 1200s right away
-this way you won't waste money on crappy decks and you'll progress much faster (but never be able to play well on crappy decks...not that you'll ever have to anyways)
-you can get a used pair for about 300 pounds on ebay (where I live in Canada you can get a pair for 600$ CAN)
-if it turns out you don't like mixing you can sell them for what you paid for them...tech12s are bombproof and rarely break
As for the mixer? Just watch ebay (add all the cheap mixers to your watch list) and bid super low on a bunch. If one goes over your budget (let's say 50 pounds) just stop bidding, move onto the next (until you get a good one for cheap).
I got a Vestax PCV-275 in mint condition for 100=40 pounds that way last year.
That's my advice - good luck.

you actually LIKE that VMC-004???
the EQ is SOOOO bad - it's almost a wedding DJ mixer
...the knobs have all the control between 11 and 12 oclock
aagh
then again I've only used one in a club environment and it was pretty old (still...)
