I personally think that displayed post counts should be removed completely.

I'm with Nate!
Whilst some find it a useful indication of how actve somebosy is on these forums, it can be misleading (yes, yes I know we've gone down this path before, but I like repeating myself because I'm anal like that ;-) )
Been thinking about it and a much better indication would be like a karma kind of thing where people can give other members a karma score for each post. It might work, it might get abused, but its just a thought.

I dunno, there's certainly some advantage to the post count in my view. I do like to know how active someone is on the forum, especially if you want to PM them. If they have 8 posts and have been a member since 2001 it's just an indication for me.

I sort of agree with Simon (don't tell him though please).
There are advantages to having post counts - as described above, but anyone who's here regularly generally gets to know about the other members from the content of their posts/topics - rather than the amount.
I do like the sound of a sort of 'reputation' system though - can be open to misuse as Underloop pointed out but i think it's a great way of knowing what the other users think of you. And anybody who cares is more likely to use the forums properly. Yes, there might be the odd conflict that could affect your rating but it'd be quite interesting to find out if everybody thinks i'm a twat!

We wont be putting this feature on as it would just make people start creating new topics in order to boost their stats.
If anything we might just remove the post counts or perhaps put a feature in place like if your a donating member you can display your post count as I would assume that most donating members are not really the spam type of user. Thoughts?

sounds like a good idea. another one could be putting the post count in user's profiles and not on the board, like they do on ush

what i would do,
is keep the stars working as they are... but have post count as "posts in last 3 month" or something.
combined with the join date. that should give more than enough info.
plus it would really tell u who the spammers are lol
and do as Dj jaxon said aswell with a total post count in the profile.

Good idea! And im not just saying that because ive donated
People might just donate so they can have a post count, but hey! Its getting the site some dosh!
I also like XtarsiA's idea of a "last 3 months" post count. It would still say whos active like Simon said.
