HI,
My friend has just bought a load of hardware to connect his decks to pc, he has asked me to find out about software for him, I don't have the first clue so can anyone please tell me the names of some software programmes that are ideal for a beginner but also good quality for experienced producing?
any help is much appreciated, thanks xx

a load of hardware? you only need like two pieces of wire to connect your decks to your puter =P
as for software, I'd try either reason or fruity loopy

Depending on what your wanting my advice would be,
for production go for reason every time
but for a beginer it can be quite puzzling
If ££££'s not a problem then my advice would be get final scratch and ableton live (which imo is so much easier to work), with that you'll be able to remix tunes save them and then use final scratch to play them
PS
I know final scratch isn't needed due to CD decks but imo what it cost for FS is irrelevent as your using vinyl rather than CD's and how can you put a price on that
