vst instruments
vst effects
a good soundcard
plenty of RAM
good set of monitor speakers (alesis are ur best bet) or a good set of headphones (top end range ones like sennheisers or sony's)
possibly some hardware synths / mixing desks

u can get alot of royalty free samples off the next on various sites like djmixsource and the dailywav, just google wav samples and you'll get shit load of results and excellent websites to get samples from for free

also if your looking to do some remixes best to get some midi files as well to work on

oh and you'll need plenty of patience as producing takes years to perfect and to get good enough

hope this helps

ps FL is a good program to start on, so dont give up on it if it seems hard at first, just play about and you'll soon get the hang of it :)

Yes that is the best way to go about it and just don't give up basically, It took me about 3 months to get to grips with the basics, i.e. patterns and how the playlist worked and to use automation, i kept getting pissed off n turning it off but i kept going back because i wanted to do it so much, from there i guess i've learnt a lot of things from just messing about really, trying new things. Using new vsti's I would suggest trying to do a remix and get a midi for a song as tommy said, you just load it into the piano role and your away. It's just perfecting what you know always everytime you use it, it's a constant thing you can never be too good at producing, as you're always on a learning curve!

Just some of my thoughts :D

I learnt Fruityloops by makin tunes i know of by heart (ive made Rush-Ins by Hixxy at least 20 times!), as far as i know its the best way of learning things like arrangements n stuff.

You might well need some samples, try http://www.bangingtunes.com/misc/royalty-free-samples/
