Hey
I want to start mixing and every thing but i don't know what to get. ive read a few things on the forum and got lost in all the different opinions and things to start off with. The thing i hav picked up is that i should get DDs instead of belt. At the moment i have alot of cash but i dont want to splash out on expensive things yet and as im 14 parents woudl aprove of me spending thousands on equipt. Soo is there a starter kit or mix of things that is highly recomended for a beginner? Thanks for any help :)

Okay, heres your double-edged sword though..
IF you've got the cash you'll definetly want newer equipment that will eliminate the prospect of you spending MORE money later on the same gear. (headphones, and turntables) and yes go for Direct-Drive.
Typically, you can get yourself some kick ass tables and a semi-basic mixer to get the hang of things...then upgrade the mixer when you see fit to do so.
also if your a bedroom dj youll probably want some nice monitors for now, or if your lucky like some of my freinds' youll have the whole garage or house to yourself for an actual PA system.

Spend your money on good tables or cd jays and save some money on a mixer then upgrade later.

Oh yeh another thing.. where's teh best place to get the set up? I was thinking of buying them from an american site and getting them sent to the UK because thigns cost less over there.

you could do that but its complicated, just try looking for a american shop online and phone them up and see if they will send them as a gift.
or if you buy from the uk, id suggest looking all over the net for the cheapest price you can find and getting decks.co.uk to price match them, ive bought all my gear from them and they are quality imo

The shipping from the states would probably be loads of money plus import taxes you would have to pay. What happens if something goes wrong with them you would have to send them back again cost lots of cash.
I thing plugs in the states are the same as most of Europe (2-pin).
Im got both types of plug with my mixer when i purchased it.
If you buy in this country i would recommend using djstore.co.uk they are easily the best on-line dj store i have used.

woudl that be ok just to start with? its about £200 a pair

id go on ebay and get some 1210s if you dont want to pay a fortune, they last forever anyway, just look out for some that look like its an honest sale with good quality pics
you should be able to pick up some 1210s in perfect order for 200 a deck (400 all in)

i looked on ebay for thoes 1210s but i think ill go with the Stantons for now and if i do want to carry on then i can allways get new Technics another time :) as for a mixer no idea :S and i still need to find sum speakers lol

glad that link helped you out. Just remember when your starting out..its important to read "product reviews" and always google/yahoo different equiptment to a) check the best prices b) see what OTHER people/places say about your planned purchase.

Problem is a pair of Stanton T60's will not hold well at all... It is much better to have something that holds a speed to learn to beat match on.

Dont know where you found them for £200 for the pair the cheapest on a quick search was £280 including postage.
Statons do have a reputation fro not holding there pitch as Bubly said so that would mean you would be correcting the speed just like a belt drive

if you are going to get cheap decks to start with id suggest cirtonic pd1 mk2s, thats what i started off on and they did me proud,
£260 for a pair i think

don't listen to Jaxon  haha, i would say Numark all the way, there decently priced, got all the top features, and look brill. plus numark sell 'dj in a box' deals. look at the numark web site for the models, and as Jaxon said decks.co.uk is a good site to for deals.
