Hello everyone! I want to start DJ'ing, but how should i start? should i use computer program or decks, which is most fun? Is there any "newbie"-kit that's good? and what is the cheapest way to do it. but i really want to start making mixes and stufs!

/Gabriel

Cheapest way would be mp3 downloads and pc program. If you dont have a lot of money dont go vinyl.

You should buy a set of cd or vinyl decks and a mixer but your not going to get good cheep ones because they don't exist im afraid.

If you have to save money it's better to have a cheeper mixer and more expensive decks rather that the other way round.

Don't buy belt drive record decks always go for direct drive.

You could try getting some technic 1210's second hand as their build quality is second to none. *hides*

If you already have a stereo with speakers you can use that for now to save you having to shell out for speakers and an amp as well.

To start off your record collection it may be worth trying to buy a whole lot at once from someone selling theirs as this will give you a load of vinyl at a good price to get practicing with.

Hope this helps.

*edit* Using either cd or vinyl decks would definitely be a lot more fun as your not sat crunched infront of a computer giving yourself repetitive strain injuries, IMO mixing on a computer is just a pain and not much fun at all. Don't expect any bookings if you use computer mixing software.

your budget directly relates to what you wanna get.

cheap/easy= pc/mp3 mixing
average=used cdj's/used Turntables/speakers/mixer

Then, if your budget allows and you think its worth it. (how long you actually THINK you can stay interested in mixing) You can get some nice brand new equipment. Everyone here is helpful, so tell us more.

When your making a serious mix, you pick what you feel for that second or have you decided before which songs it should contain??

When I´m doing a mix I´m picking out the tunes before. When I play live I just play what I feel like.

Ableton Live is a little hard to use but useful.
I personally love vinyl. That's basically all I use to spin. It's a lot of money, and I never have any money, but it's pure satisfaction I get from vinyls. Vinyls are like...an art. You just don't get that effect if you spin on a computer or even CDJs.
Whatever floats your boat though...do what you want...we can't make decisions for you.
