Hello, first of all I would recommend you to swap to reason 3. To your Question, I'm not sure if i understand you'r question right but try to give you a smooth answer. It's quiet difficult to answer on this one ;)
- Do you use any compressor's on the mix?
- Did you tryed to adjust the master level of the sampler u have the vocals in whit the rest of the song?
If so, make sure you don't have the compressors messed up and maybe do a smart pre-mastering during the mix. That's one of the most difficult sotrys in using Reason for me. If you still have any questions, try to explain them more accurate.
cheers

I got told to put a low pass filters on my vocals once but I don't know if that's something that was just needed in that instance or if it's a common thing to do with voc's? It definitely sounds like you have too much on the low end of the voc's to me... have you tried just eqing it a bit? Bring up the mid a bit and take down the low, that should help if you havn't already done it but I guess you probably have?

yeah i've cut the lows and boosted the mids, i'm thinking of amplifying the sample in audacity a bit more before i load it into the nn xt

Post a sample? We can then hear exactly what your hearing and theres more chance of being able to diagnose your situtation.
If its overpowering the kick then you need to sort out the EQ and placement with regards to the kick. Theres no sidechain eq or compressors in Reason 2.5 is there? You could try that, or just a static eq/compressor over the vocal has already been suggested.
The other solution is of course to move the vocals around so that it doesn't clash with the kick as much. A good mix is always done in 3D, with the 3 dimensions being frequency, time and level.... you need to get all threee right for all elements, keeping all the elements of the mix "in the box" as it were

As Underloop said, it's difficult to advise without a clip..... but if your vocal is over-powering the kicks, chances are it's the kick which is at fault.
