Just a question

Do you set the threshold of the compressor to the same settings as the compressors gain, or what do you set the threshold too?

Is it the signal thats its at before you apply compression?

Think about what the word "threshold" means in other contexts. The threshold determines how much of the signal will be affected by the compressor. Say your sound has a dynamic range that reaches up to -3dB. If your threshold isn't lower than -3dB, you're not compressing the sound at all (unless you're using a non-linear, soft-knee compressor - but that's a different story). If you were to set your threshold to, say, 4 or 5dB - the extra 1 or 2dB that goes over the threshold would be what is affected by the compressor's ratio. Say the ratio is 2:1 - anything above the threhold has it's dynamic range halved. Does that make sense?

I think so, so set the threshold 2 db more if the ratio is at 2:1 , so That would mean I would set the threshold 3 db more if the Ratio was at 3:1?
