"Don't buy Stanton's they drift all over the place as they can't hold the pitch... you wont learn to mix with these and probally give up."
true
you need to babysit the pitch alot on Stantons
but for starting out it's ok

I mean...I started on one belt drive stanton + one belt drive gemini xl100 (yeah...that was a PIECE OF SHIT) and didn't give up
it just teaches you to correct your pitch quickly
and that way you can adapt to crappy equipment at house parties and such

If I were you I'd get a 2 channel mixer from Vestax or another decent brand
just check around on ebay maybe and look for some deals
I got my PCV-275 for 105$ US (I could sell it right now for 450$ US where I live...it's the going price for used 275s)
so it's not too hard to find good deals

and btw it's easier to learn to spin on turntables than cd players

and to answer your question you can add cd players to a Vestax PCV-275 (it can handle 3 turntables and 6 line inputs...so 6 cd players :P)

quick question: are bpm counters really needed? would be useful but in the end, needed? How many of you have bpm counters?
and another question that just bumbed into my head: what's a kill switch?

Bpm counters are not need. most are inacurate annway.

Kill switch will kill one of your eq bands (its the same as turning your eq down)

it's better to get used to spinning w/o them. most likely you're not going to be able to have them when you play out so no point in using them.

the only reason I even use mine is for when I'm mixing from slower genres to faster ones. makes it easier to have an idea of how fast you can get the song when using a limited +/- 8 deck.

basically BPM counters are useless and are a BAD thing when you're starting out (instead of learning to beatmatch properly you're just 'cheating'...and it works out ALOT better by ear anyways)

as for kill switches
those are good once you've got the basics down
(for example you can do some trick switching basslines and stuff)

but totally shouldn't be a factor in your choice
they're just a luxury

and kill 'buttons' suck by the way
they're completely useless

So no bpm counters, how long does it take to beatmatch properly?
So kill-switches should be an feature..?
With all these things together, what mixer (in your opinion) would suit me?

Learning to beatmatch takes alot of effort
it's all about getting the ear for it

you might be able to do it 'sortof' after 2-3 weeks
doing it 'decently' usually takes between 2 months and a year

it also depends how much you practice
it's easier if someone teaches you

I learnt myself, took 2 months to do it decently
it's all about knowing with track is going slower/faster
and how to correct the pitch on the proper deck after

basically it's something you have to learn yourself

as for what mixer you should get...
I don't know your price range
any PCV two channel Vestax mixer will do
if you can afford a 3 channel quality Vestax mixer like the PCV-275 then go for it
took me a while to adapt to it from my other mixer cause the EQ curves aren't super standard but if you can mix on that mixer you can mix super well on one with curves where most of the volume rests in the top 20% of the EQ faders like the numarks, stantons and such

I like the Stanton RM-3 too
the EQ knobs are kinda tight though
and it's not as high-end and durable
but a good mixer nonetheless

otherwise if you just wanna get a mixer that you'll learn on then sell
Gemini 626
Numark 2000 or 3000
off the top of my head

there's also some stuff from Ecler, Rane, Tascam and such you could check out but those aren't super popular in Canada so I don't know them well enough to recommend anything

Thx for replying =)
I chatted with DJ Myers one day and he said he has a Behringer DJX700 (one that I once looked at), and he says it does his things really good. Quite cheap compared with the rest, so dunno if I should get one or not, that vestax is about dubble the price...

One more question, should I get a Dual-CD station or two separate CD-players?
Two separate CD-player cost more than a single dual-cd...
