hey,was wondering what everyone else uses in the way of drums for their tunes.
im using this free vst called DRfusion at the moment and in theory its a really good idea....you merge two samples of drum hits along with using the usual atack, decay etc,pan...bla bla...
but in practice it takes years to get a good sound out of them, and even at that its somewhat suspect.
if i face facts it probably doesnt sound right to me,as im forever comparing stuff to tr-909s snares, claps i mean...kicks im farely open minded with...
i dont know whether a sample playing drum machine like battery or that is the answer or that then,or whether there is a decent drum machine out there.
to make things simple,im basicly looking for a vst that recreates steriotypical dance/hardcore drum 'noises'.
any help greatly apreciated,cheers!

i rember there is one vst called thumper or something like that that is made for kicks only and u creat it from noise.
i dont recommend that tho because its 2 hard to use and i never got anything good from it.
i recommend just getting drum library for dance music and use battery to load the samples in there. u get great results if u know how to mixdown.

I use samples :)
If your looking for hardware, then the Novation Drum Station is really good, it's a 909 clone, and costs nowhere near as much as a 909, but still sounds the same :) I've used it and it's good, if i had the money i would get one myself (even though they are under £200) :)

Same, I use samps as well, but that Novation Drumstation does sound like a good deal, might save up for it along with a new PC lol.

downloaded it, but in my hands, not seem to be getting any satisfactory kicks out of it, except the applying distortion seems to make any of the presets sound good lol.
anyone get any decent results outv it, i definately would like to know ; )
good space saver on percussions but dun know how demanding its on the cpu.

Does anyone here ever use the sonic charge micro tonic. I bought it on the recommendation of a college tutor and have written plenty of rough demo's, but my kick is never enough. Everything else I use is great, I have created an amazin fuzz snare from it, and a nice ride cymbal, But no kick. I even tried Gammers kick tip (two kicks one with bass rolled off and one with high end rolled off and combined, bottom kick eq'd to fuq and top kick with a bit of quadrafuzz) and nothing. I don't want to use samples. I use Cubase SX2 and have a set of professional compressors. Nothing.
Any Help?
Cheers

I beleive it's all about technique. You can get a kickdrum from pretty much any synthesiser, it's all about how what you do with it that makes it sound good. I can't really describe what those things are, because i can't get kicks like the ones you find on sample CD's myself neccesarily.
I myself always use notch filtering, to make the kick sound thuddy, in other words, to get rid of the unwanted low mids. I find that this helps massively, though you need to do it right to get the right results.
I'd start with a relatively low frequency, and alter the resonance to where it sounds good :) I can't say that this is a conventional technique, or if it is in fact a bad one, but it definately works for me.
