I don't think it's really the kind of thing that can be taught too well, you have to just learn it from experimenting and experiance. But there is one thing you can be taught, is how synthesis works, if you understand how it works, then you should be able to learn by yourself. I don't know where you could get such tutorials though, i just know that a good one comes with the software verion of the Novation Bass Station, otherwise just do a google search, there has to be lots out there :)

To make that plucky sound you need to apply an envelope to the filter, with it set to low-pass and give it a short decay.

The Scouse House bass's that have a 'donk' sound, are made using FM (frequency modulation), so you need a synth with FM on it. The Novation V-Station has an FM section on it (one thing i really really like about it, because you can get such phatt sounds using FM in the right way), and can make such a sound, i've done it myself :) Naturally, the filter will need to be envoloped, as The Deviant said :)

Well there are full FM synths (which are alot harder to program than normal synthesis), and then synths that have a singe FM oscillator and a very basic envelope (on the V-Station at leas), the second one is what i meant :)

Unless it's FM synthesis, or any other type of synthesis, all synthesisers essentially work the same, and always have the same basic functions (amp and filter envelopes etc...). I could tell you what you needed to know for most synthesisers (not that i know alot). Do you have an example of the sound you want? That would be really helpfull :) I could make a preset in the synth you wanted to use, and send it you so you can see what it is that you needed to do, if you liked.
