Hi all ; )

Was just after some opinions and recommendatins on a pair of studio monitors in the 300-400pound mark. At the moment, im leaning towards the Mackie Tapco S8s for its 40-20 frequency range, but dont wanna rush into the buy as ive no knowledge and experience in this area. If anyone knows of anything better in price and or performance please let me know ; )

EEP! Don't judge a speaker by it's frequency range, but rather on whether it has a flat/linear frequency response. Typically you asses frequency response with a audio spectrum analyser using pinknoise as refference. One speaker might be -3db quieter in a certain frequency range (Say 2khz -4khz) while another speaker might be +3db louder in the same range. These are the differences that make some speakers sound warm, while others sound harsh, and others sound bass heavy. Manufacturers SHOULD include frequency curve charts for their speakers but they don't. I know that Mackie put up a frequency curve chart for their HR824s that was perfectly FLAT. I don't know how legitamate the chart is, but the HR824 has some very nice filters to get it sounding damn flat.

Anyway: The best peformance to price ratio monitors you can get in AU:

Most people will tell you to go to a store and listen for yourself, to see which monitors you like best :)

Inverydeed but if you don't have a store/place near you where you can listen, then you would just need to go via peoples opinions, which is what I did. By going round tons of forums I visit and looking around and I came to the conclusion of what to get. :)

Apollo: Good choice! ;)

might check those rokit 5s out. The guy that im seeing is recommending the rokit rp6s for half the price of Tapco S8s, do you guys think the Tapco S8s are worth double the price of Rokit 6s.

thanx Rob for that site, gonna check things out with em.

not too sure how much the rokit 8s are but i was kinda favouring the tapcos over rokit 6s cause they seemed to be worth more online lol.
