I'd like to get into production but I really have no idea where to begin.
What kind of equipment should I get? Are there any tutorials?
I'd be greatly appreciative.

Among the best software would be the likes of Reason, Cubase, (some say fruti loops too). There is also some type of software available-but only for use on Apple computes **unsure of the name**.
These are very expensive.
When I wanted to start, I bought cheap packages (between 20-40 pounds) and worked on with what I had there-just to get used to the way things work.
Others prefer to go straight into the top software and work from there.
As for what equiptment you should get....that kind of depends on how much you want to spend. As for tutorials/help....There are a lot of talented people on here who I'm sure would be willing to give you help (MjDream,GaryXL and AudioExtacy are a few that spring to mind, there are many more). There are also a lot of producers who frequently visit this site (ionosphere: http://www.ionosphere.co.uk - to name one of many). I hope this reply has helped in some way....but I doubt it... ---------------------------- Hello old chap, Ready for another one? Yes, ok. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=230636&T=6205

exactly wot mustapha said.if you wanna learn a big boy first ie-reason cubase logic fl studio.i do suggest getting a tutorial book from amazon or somewhere jus shop around and read reviews.cubase etc are alot lot harder to learn than fl studio but with a good tutorial and help from forums ul be on ur way.although peeps will probly slate u if u go with fl do not take any notice it does the same things as cubase etc jus different interpretations on things u wldt need a tutorial for this however as its quick and easy to learn.get a decent soundcard if u havnt already but no rush if ur new.monitor speakers are required but as i say one step at a time.i tend to do my productions through headphones it seems to wrk 4 me.keyboards are usefull but not essential im quite fond of my mouse in piano roll.thats covered the basics really jus to get you started hope this helps
mj-dream remember the name im here for fame

for any synths/drum sequencers you need on a budget (even has a search for free stuff, which theres loads of) go to --- www.kvraudio.com
free samples at--- www.freeloops.co.uk
www.acidfanatic.com
www.fellers.co.uk
www.pellamania.com
for help on production--- www.synthvox.com
that should be a decent start on how to give you a basic idea...or at least some stuff to mess around with...(practice makes perfect an all that)

In my opinion, going in and buying one of the big ones (Cubase, Reason) is like jumping in the deep end of a swimming pool, without knowing how to swim. I reccomend you start off with something at the easy, and cheap end, such as Ejay. This will teach you about the basics of track layout. When you're confident with that and you feel you want to move on and start making your own melodies and synths, I recommend Fruityloops. This will teach you a lot about different synths, effects, and mastering. When you feel you've mastered Fruityloops, that's when I recommend using Cubase and Reason.
But the truth is, do what you want to do. If you feel you can start off with Cuabse and Reason, go for it.
Good luck mate.

a tried jumpin in deep end with cubase...couldnt even figure out how to attach a vst to a track
ableton a recon is a big boy...and pretty easy....cheap on certain websites too
reason is good but sum1 sed it doesnt support vsts...quite limiting.
dont neciserily need a keyboard at the start if you have mega patience!

Yeah I agree with Zippy, patience is important. There is a LOT of stuff you'll be learning, and it isn't something you'll pick up in a few hours, or even days.
You'll be learning new stuff each time you use the program you use. I've been producing for about a year now and i'm still learning stuff. [:P] Even when I jumped from Fruityloops to Cubase it took me a while to get my head round it all, so trying to go straight into Cubase would have killed me.
Practice makes perfect mate, the time will pay off.

when i was about 12,13 i used to mess around with stuff like rave ejay and magix music maker, but those programmes are only for fun imo. If you want to seriously get into producing you need to teach yourself how to use the top gear such as cubase, reason e.t.c. I bought myself a new pc and a reason 2.5 package that came with the m-audio ozone midi keyboard at a discount price, it cost me about €1100 in total, I found reason difficult at first but it doesn't take long to learn. They are plenty off books and online tutorials for it.

Something like this:
Thats my rig. Reason 2.5, countless refills and wavs, and M-Audio Radium61, a Behringer B2-Pro with MIC100 tube pre amp and of course, that Virus sitting there doing nothing. (I have to load in all the patch banks)
