i dont know if this thread already exist...never mind
one of my friends asked me for an "oldschool synthi"... he's a very good keyboarder, but he only played on an crappy alesis Oo... now he's looking for a CHEAP one (not implicitly a bad one)(i dont know if the prices are on decrease atm or not; what are the prices for the JD800//990 (dunno if those are good ones, i never played them, i only heard of them )) or are there other good synthis with common functions and good voices to some extent?
he's producing trance, dance and a bit techno

I would strongly suggest a Roland Alpha Juno (1 or 2) or JX10, and they both go for under £200 most of the time :) I don't think there are any better synths for oldskool sounds. But that may just be my opinion.
Also with the JX10 you get a good 76 key keyboard (semi-weighted and velocity sensitive keys) :)
I can't say i know what the default voices are like, but that dosn't really matter as you can just make your own. Although, neither of these synths are the easiest to program without the relevent PG(PG300 for the Alpha Juno, and PG800 for the JX10) programmer.
Alpha Juno sounds were used in 90% of Hardcore tunes back in 94-99, so that will give you an idea of the sounds you can get from it. It was used in alot of Dance tunes from the early 90's too.
