What speed does everyone find comfortable to dance to at a party? I love to play at 175-180bpm, it just feels right for me, and my scratching flows better at faster speeds. But is this sometimes too fast? I've found 180 is pretty much pushin it when it comes to people moving their feet for long periods of times. Normally if i see people slowing down and not dancing I will slow things down a bit... what are your thoughts on this?

its weird when you look back on older hardcore it used to be a lot slower. 160 is too slow for me!!

This is a strange one. I find that when im out ravin and the speed drops its difficult to hook into the beat and dance. It all just seems to slow to me.

If you are worried about the crowd, i find a good way if you are playing a set of 1-1.5 hours is to start off a little slower say about 150 then build upto about 190 right at the end of the set. The energy produced if this is done right is amazing.

At the end of the day i suppose it all depends on the crowd and how u read them.

At my last DJ set the DJ before me was playing hard house / techno (about 160BPM), so I drop for my first track a slow breakbeat oldskool track that kind of got everyone into the new groove of the music, and I slowly speed it up over about 3-4 records, the crowd was into it and really responded.

right on.. good idea. i dunno what it is but i always seem to go on right after a dnb dj, which is awesome. cuz its easy to continue that speed and energy and just move it on over to hardcore.

I personally really like about 135BPM. That way I can just sit back, relax, and kick my legs in the air. At that speed I can also continuously dance for 3-5 hours which is also nice ^_^

Acid Jazz!? Gee this is tough... I would probally start soft DNB or even a house track (ack!) move into hard house, then a track by Sy (perhap power pitching) which is kind of a briding track, all the time speeding it up over about 15-20 mins.

Dunno about starting with house... ppl might be pissed (this is the US, I'm the only hardcore dj there for the night -- like most times -- so they want hardcore damnit!). I'll probably end up starting with slower trancecore and work up the speed.

Well, when I do a set, I tend to start fairly fast paced.. alphaville forever young... or something easy to get into at first...

then hammer it harder as i go.

but here half the ppl i DJ to are totally pilled up the faster the better as far as they are concerned

they are drugged so the faster it is the madder the rush for them (so they say)

anyway thats just what i do :)

You know the words, just say it...

While I hope and pray..
that we'll somehow make it.."

165BPM Minimum I'd say. Max around 200. Any higher is ace, but dancing get's a little too hard.
