Hi there, this is my first post here on happyhardcore.com so I'll try and make it interesting! I've been producing my own music for a few years now and I have recently appeared on my local radio station, which to me is a success I feel I'm still not at that professional level yet though. When I began creating my own music I used programs from the eJay series. Since then I've adapted to much more intricate and professional programs such as Reason. There's one thing holding me back and thats where sound creation comes into play. I find it extremely difficult to get professional sounding synths, kicks, the whole lot.
There has been a few posts asking how to create sounds etc but I wish to be more specific. If possible can you help me what good, professional programs are in order to create synths and kicks etc.
The kind of synths I'm after are pretty melodic ones, none of that dark stuff but synths that vocals can go along with. If anyone has heard of the compilation Bonkers and/or Wigan Pier you'll know what style I'm after. Also the bouncy bassline from Wigan Pier would be excellent to play around with.
I'd appreciate the help from you all to push me one step further to super-stardom Anything you wish to ask me just go ahead. Also, you can add me on msn messenger - [email protected] - I don't want any time wasters adding me Thanks alot!

Thats the thing really, "what kind of music do you produce?" I tend to produce dance music more than anything. I can create my own sounds, but to be fair they are pretty poor. Some of my stuff can be heard by going on http://www.acidplanet.com/jamesdee. I'd really like to grasp a certain music style, and I feel the ability to create professional sounding samples as it were would help me achieve this! Yeah I read that thread with what 'icex' said, didn't really help me though lol . Lets hope somebody can help us!

Nah I create my songs from scratch. I do actually create my own samples which are adequate to an extent. But I'd really like to know how to create professional sounding samples using professional progams. At the moment I use Fruity Loops to create my samples and arrange them in Acid Pro.

Yeah maybe, but it still wouldn't be the same synth sound that I'm after. I'm sure you can make the sounds in Reason, but I just need help using which modules to use, what effects to use etc. A decent sounding bass sound is hard to achieve also.
If there is someone willing to help please do

Well I purchased ejay music director pro - this comes with 10,000 royalty free samples. Albeit not all of them are very good but there are some that are pretty good. All the samples are in WAV format. Then I heard of Acid Pro. I got this and began making music with this using the Music Director samples. I began downloading samples etc until I went into Fruity Loops etc to create my own samples. It is really worth getting out of ejay and creating your own sounds, you can escape then and make your songs sound just how you want them.
tip: i found private keyboard lessons a great help. it gives you knowledge about chords etc. A real help

Thing is this can take a few years of learning if you are a producer who likes to create alot of your own sounds and don't sample sounds and use patches......
Do you know about programming synths etc.........different types/ways of manipulating sounds from just raw waves ?
If not spend lots of time learning, trying to copy something you hear in a tune is good, or try to see how patches are created on the given synth you are using.
Its all about using and abusing the kit you have....
Maybe Reason's output quality is slighlty lower than others but you CAN still get good sounds out of the synths in there..just then move them over to a better sounding program to then add effects and mix in with other parts.
As you have said effects can be a major part, even if its just compression being used on a given sound to help it feel say fatter...
My mind has gone blank for now........... soz if what I have wrote is obvious

Jamesdee.
I produce music with Reason and like you, I used to have problems creating the sounds that I wanted.
If you want to know more about it, or what I can get out of it, him me up on MSN - [email protected]
Learning about the theory of music can be a great help in producing music. It can give you tips on building things like melodies and what chord progressions you should use.
The main synth sound you're after is from the Roland JP8080, and its called the SuperSaw (with good reason too!)
Also, as a side note, Rebirth is too limiting. Its like the baby before Reason. Its only designed as a bare essentials program using replicas of the classic Roland Machines - TR808, TR909 and the TB303.

I do love Rebirth though, it's really wicked for acidlines :) It does all the things that are essential for a good 303 acidline (essential to me), that only one other program/VSTi can do :) And it sounds extremely good. I just make the loop and export it as a .wav file.
To work within the program though is as ryg0r said, very limiting, but it's good practice for if you ever use a real TB-303, TR-909 or TR-808, and hardware sequencers in general :)
