I've been wanting to buy some decks for a really long time, and I now have about $500 saved up (I don't have a job yet). I wanted to ask what turntables/mixer I should get. I don't want it to be all hi-tech and stuff, but I want it to be quality.
Around this price, what are my choices to what I can buy?
Thanks.

for 500 dollars, well, your a shy about 250$ to get a pair of technics and a decent mixer. And thats on ebay.
For 500$:
Pair, Numark TT-200's, 299$, eBay
Pair, Stanton 505 Cartriges, 30$ ebay
1 Vestax PMC-06 mixer, 180$, eBay
You'll still need roughly 60$ for records, would pay for about 7 or 8, I reccomend http://www.phusionrecords.com, Sage (the owner) is a great guy, they have a good selection, and a good website. I reccomend that particular Vestax because it has an adjustable crossfader, dual bar, very high quality digital crossfader. You'll want something durable, I am guessing you wont have another 500$ any time soon, so you will want to get something that lasts. I am against the model of thinking that says "Buy cheap first." ----------------------------- Dub dub dub dub dubadadub dub dub dub...

your going to have to save up some more cash for technics. there are less expensive decks out there, but it's not the same. you're not going to go into a club or party and play on stantons, so might as well learn on technics, can't go wrong that way. as far as mixers go, generally, less expensive means less operation time. with the proper dj gear, your mixing will take on a whole new meaning to you. what sucks is when you practice your heart out at home on "cheap" decks, come to find out that your mixing skills don't hold up on a pair of unfamiliar decks and a mixer that you've never heard of. go to the clubs and parties, check out the setups that they are using. plus this board is a good place for ideas. all i gotta say is don't throw your money away on a setup that you may grow out of in a few months. technics have been the industry standard and not really anyone has grown out of them. but yeah, about phusion records, there isn't a record shop on the west coast that could hold a candle to their selection. subsonic underground was the best, but phusion/feelgood bought them up and simon moved home to the uk. phusion kicks ass and the guys there will help you out alot.
don't stand and stare, just kick your legs in the air

Thats the spirit, jeesus, I wish I had that kinda patience :P I bought Numark TT-100's (roughly THREE year old decks), a used SMX-201 Stanton mixer, and that setup is now totally worn out. I have bought 1 Vestax PDX-2000's, and a Vestax PMC-06, new Stanton Discmaster carts, some new slipmats. Still gotta buy the other PDX.
