Ok, i'm thinking of getting a new mixer in the coming months and have seen one I like:
http://www.htfr.com/more-info/?catno=MR100334 I wont be buying it from htfr as i could probably find it cheaper elsewhere. But what i noticed is that it hasn't got a replaceable crossfader. So what happens if the crossfader gets worn out like? Anyone got this mixer, what are your thoughts, could I get a better one for the money? Cheers -Andrew

whilst my PPD01 was in repairs (not numarks fault) we bought the DXM1, the first one of the line, as a backup, whilst we waited for our other to return, my wife and i both hated the crossfader, which felt vastly inferior to the one on our ppd01, and worst of all (ok this is just an astetics thing) the metal front (blue grey area) felt as though it was made of cheep sega mega drive (sega genisis for our american cousins) plastic matirel
other than that, i havent tried the effects on this one (DMX6) - but same rule applies about effects across the board
like when i owned the numark EM-260 (with the kaoss pad built in)
it was a stupid amount of fun, BUT after a while you find that you dont use the effects that much though, for the first month its great fun, playing with them every 3 seconds, and then you gradually find out your over-doing it, you slowly stop using them. danger of over-doing it is the biggest problem when it comes to effect mixers.
you'll find your basically paying for somthing you may not use THAT much in the end
if your gonna go for a numark go for the PPD01
as you can see, you can change the slope on the fader too, ideal for scratching, you can set it to a great quick cut, to a nice gentle glide or any mark inbetween. the effects below can also be added to your scratching/mixing, and are all controled via the crossfader.
which i have to add is an awsome fader, its the best ive used yet, smooth, dosnt click, dosnt feel cheep...looveeeelyy
its been my favorite mixer so far. it just feels so good to use
until i tried the PPD01 (and ttx1's) i was never really bowled over by numark.
Numark have improved a vast amount in the past 2 years.
i wouldnt be afraid to try any of there new products.
oh, and numarks customer service are incredible, they got my PPD01 back to me in just 3 days, with $100 worth of damages fixed - for free - without a reciept - after it was broken whilst being shipped when i moved from UK to the USA.
dream come true :)
"Personally I would'nt go near a Numark mixer they have to many problems"
i have had 4 numark mixers across the years, and the only time i have ever had a problem is when it got broken in transit across 4000 miles, and the other i broke the kaoss pad that was built into it by droping a turntable on it.
im sure you wernt, but i find people just say this because it seems to be an opinion that was started years and years ago, and now people just say it because they heard someone else say it. fact is, like i said earlyer
Numark have improved a vast amount in the past 2 years.

I don't know anything about the new Numarks. I do know that I own four mixers; A Radio Shack piece of crap, a Numark DM2002, a Pioneer DJM500, and a Pioneer DJM600; all of which (except the Radio Shack) I purchased broken and repaired myself (I fished the Radio Shack out of the trash - working! Too bad or I would have put it right back:)
I can honestly say that the Numark equipment of years ago was really crap; it worked poorly and wasn't built very well at all. The Numark of 3 or 4 years ago was muuuuuuuch better and ordering parts was very easy and the people there were quite knowledgable and helpful. I can only assume given their growing product line and the competitive nature of the market that are improving else they would be losing money.
I will say this however; none of the lower cost mixers I have ever used or heard produce the quality of sound of the mixers by Pioneer. Rane, or Roland, etc. If you're gonna buy a low cost mixer expect a slightly less clear sound and usually less solid build. I can tell a big difference in my Numark and my Pioneers.
As for crossfaders, personally I don't like them except for that rare ocassion when I want to swap beats. Early on a DJ friend convinced me not to get used to using the x-fader for transitions because he said that it might not always be there (lots of clubs still have rotary knob mixers without a x-fader) and he showed me that I really didn't need it anyway. I spin tribal proggy house/trance and happy hardcore and for me personally I would rather have a mixer with good bass/mid/treble controls for each channel rather than a crossfader.
Seems to me that its mainly the scratchers and a few DnB DJs that really use their x-faders. I have been repairing electronic equipment now for over 10 years and have replaced a few crossfaders...mostly due to abuse. I wouldn't worry too much about a replaceable x-fader unless you intend to wear it out. A good technician can replace any x-fader "replaceable" or not. It' just a question of fifteen minutes or an hour to do the job, and he will probably charge you about the same either way.
Sorry if this went on too long, but I am b0red sh17le55 and am killing time at work :) Hope I didn't hurt anyones feeling or step on any toes!
