I need a program that I can record mixes from my mixer to a laptop on, anyone know of any good ones and what cable and anything else I would need? I don't have an internet connection on my laptop so I would need to either be able to purchase it from a shop or download it on my desktop and burn it to cd to install on my laptop.

I use silent bob to record with as some1 recommended it on this site. It records in .wav format. I use audacity to convert .wav to mp3 and trim the ends off. There is better software about but I use these because they are free to download off the internet, and you can burn em to disk and put on your laptop. You could buy a lead to connect PC to mixer because you can put your laptop near your mixer, but I had to make my own (it's about 8m long to get from one room to the other), but all you need is a stereo 3.5mm jack plug on one end of the lead to plug into your line in socket on the sound card of your laptop, and phono plugs (RCA plugs) on the other end to plug into the output of your mixer. I have to have my mixer volume way down or it distorts on the computer, so you need to get your levels right for it to sound good, and don't use the mic socket on the sound card, sounds awfull. As long as you set your recording controls for your sound card to record from the line in you should be sorted !!
Hope this helps

I've not tried soundforge but it sounds like you've got a demo version, every demo version of other software I've tried has a time limit that you can record for, Audacity is a free full version but will still only record for 30 minutes, which is why I use silent bob. If there is no time limit on soundforge I'll download a copy too, can you download it of the net?

I've always used SoundForge for this purpose and I recon it's the don. Good points about it are you can then normalize the mix afterwards of you have to etc. cheers.

You could use Sound Recorder if you wanted, it's primative, but works all the same :)
