Hi there
I planning on making a CDs of some mixes but i'm not sure how i go about it. Presumably I would need to hook a PC up to my decks or stereo system?? What sort of sofware would I need?? Also, my stereo is CDR/CDRW compatible if that helps.
Many thanks for the help :)

What you need is to link up your decks to your PC. Your PC needs to contain recording software, something like Sound Forge. That is what I use to record my mixes and works very well. You will need to purchase that software as well.

Thanks for the help Sytronik and Dave. So where does the phono between the decks and pc go? Or would I need to connect the pc to the stereo system, or directly to the mixer?
Sorry if these questions seem a bit obvious :)

Connect from your mixers (output) to your PC (input), with a 2xRCA/3.5mm Stereo cable (i think the name for the RCA plug in UK is "phono"). The cable looks like that ->
Cheap one:
Expensive one:

the smaller end is a 1/8" jack, like your standard headphone plug.
you can use sound forge to record, then us a program like cd wave to seperate the tracks
or you can use a program like t-racks to remaster the cd inbetween those

Thanks everyone, you've all been a great help. Now I know what I need to do, I'll try and get my sister old comp set up in my room and hook it up.
When I've done some mixes, I'll get a website up and running and put them on!
Thanks again :)

I managed to *acquire* soundforge too.
Would the quality of soundcard in my PC make any difference. At the moment, it's got a really old one in it, would it be worth upgrading?

yes, you can record at a higher bitrate with a better soundcard.

Just be careful with the volume levels using Soundforge, as a lot of people I've seen using it for the first time complain about either total silence (usually from recording the from wrong source) or a sort of 'farting' sound (peaking).
Make sure you open the options tab & change your recording properties to suit.
Open your mixer/volume control too, click 'options' then 'properties', change it to 'recording', make sure 'line in' is ticked & open Soundforge. Set the program to record & check that the levels on the recording volume do not hit the red (that's it peaking). Record one track, or even part of a track. Then listen to it back.
Sorry if I seem to be going over really basic stuff here, but the amount of people that come back to the forums saying "soundforge/cool edit is pants, the recording sounded crap/didn't work" is unbelievable.
Good luck with your mixes Andrew, I'll look forward to seeing them posted up here

Check out this link.
http://www.djsource.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=31036 There is a deadly word file called "mandricks recording to PC guide.doc" documenting what to do, you have to sign up to get it though.
