I wanna know if any of you DJ's you use a lot of scratching in your sets?
Cos i have a few request's for me to do some but im useless @it, I can do a few stabs and thats about it a have not really got the confidence to try it out in any of my sets.
So if any of you lot out there can help in any way let us know.

i'll put in a lil bit here and there but for the most part i concentrate on mixing, i think what keeps me from scratching much is trying to figure out what record i want to drop next =P

Here are some tips:
when i'm playin and i want to scratch, i'll normally beatmatch the next track i want to bring in, and then i take that off and put on the scratch record. M3D's are great for this because you can easily hit the pitch reset button to get the scratch record at the normal pitch. when you are done with your scratching just turn off the reset, put the next track back on and your set. its still matched.
however, i prefer doing sets with three tables. normally one table is dedicated to just scratching so that gives me a lot more freedom to roam around and have fun. ocassionally i'll blend 3 tracks together (yeah, i know its hardcore but it can be done) or do cuts.. fun stuff like that.
Scratching is all about getting an instinct feel to the record. Compared to most dj's i've seen i actually work the record more than the crossfader. I also use the Phono/Line cuts to do scratching which gives it an ultra-clean cut to it which i like. Just be creative... use the stop button, change the pitches, go crazy.

aye scratching on mk3's are cool,i got some myself,but i had 3 decks before i got these two and i just kept one for scratching and the others for mixing,sometimes i'd do a 3 deck mix though.
the way i scratch is weird,and i'm right handed but a left hand scratcher,i put my hand near where the tone arm joins the deck and not down by the quartz where everyone else does usually

Any aussie catch marcos at Lovenation 00'? Holy crap did he scratch his ass off...bloody amazing. It was funny how he was scratching over mc losty's introduction.
I am speaking from experience when I say, DO NOT! substitute 3 days of no sleep with eating 20 instant coffee packs RAW!!!

it's best to learn how to scratch by yourself,listen to a tape of sy or hixxy scratching and pick up techniques they use

I Don't particularily like scratching in sets, much like i don't like mc's. But both can be good if they are used minimally. I can't stand mc's that don't shut up or people who scratch over the best bits of tracks.

go to www.turntablism.com they have a few tutorials there which have some dj's talking you through the steps and it's pretty cool :)

Yer I find that sometimes if dj's scratch TOO much it can become boring and quite anoying, but if a dj is good at scratching then a little bit can sound great, just make sure you dont over do it, and try not to make the scratching take over the music

I agree with heist, I don't really like scratching much or MC's that get a bit excited and don't stop going on. Scratchin can really enhance a set but it's really hard to do really well and I'm usually too busy sorting out my next mix to be worrying about scratching.
