I am just about to start working with vocals. I have a mic/stand hooked into my mixer. Then I will use Cool edit to record. Not sure about how to get them into reason or how that works.

Its a nice little keyboard, the Oxy 8.

Ok, as apollo said, record your vocals using a sample editor like Sound Forge or Cool Edit (now Adobe Audition). Clean in up but us of compression, noise reduction and of course, cropping any uneeded data at the beginning of the clip.

To load them in Reason, use one of Reason's samples (either NN19 or the NNXT). Personally I prefer the NNXT when I have more complex sample manipulation and layering to do, but the NN19 is fine. just load in the sample. Make sure you've selected the right root key, otherwise you might end up hiting a bum note and then the vocal plays back llike a octave up.

Aside from that, just sequence it in.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the help, i will look for cool edit and sound forge as soon as i can, i have already downloaded a programme called audacity. I can record sound through the mic when it is connected to the ozone keyboard. but i cannot find out how to load the samples into the nnxt, 19. Is the audicity programme suitable?

you mean this? http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity is just a sample editor just like Cool Edit or Sound Forge, and is perfect.

I think the reasons you're having trouble, are because

  • You haven't bothered to read the manual
  • And you've clicked ont eh wrong "load" on the samplers.

First of, expand your sampler so that you can see all the knobs and sliders. For the NNXT, you'll need the remote editor expanded.

Click on the load sample button. Presto. Mess with the notes in the sequencer.
