Ok, I want to start making my own breakbeats for making short intros and stuff but I'm a bit outdated when it comes to all the diffrent programs and stuff.
A few years ago when I was into the whole thing the hype was REX files and reloop (think it was called that). Never tryed it out tho. Is this still the way to go? And if so, what program handels REX files good? I'd also need a good sample cd with REX files, any reccomendations?
Notice that I do not want to produce whole tracks, I only want to make short breakbeat parts, so I don't need the latest mega version of cubase. I want a good simple program that can handle rex files and allow be to add a simple bass line etc.
any tips and reccomendations are welcome!

Well I know I'm kinda going off topic here, BUT! If you get Propellerheads' ReCycle, you can load WAV, REX, and various other formats. As far as I know. As for REX CDs, I have no idea, however, I recommend http://www.djbb.dk - Shitload of breakbeat samples and loops. Really useful. Sorry if I'm not much help. http://www.geocities.com/polyphonictones/ - FREE Hardcore & Trance Polyphonic tones.

Yeah ,Get Recycle for Chopping the Break's up ,But then you'll need something to Re-arrange them how you like ,Like Reason(What REX's are made for) Or something like Acid But im not sure if Acid support's Rex. Either way you can still put the slices into Acid and arrange them how you like. :)

Actually ReCycle also supports the output of soundfonts, each slice on a different key, which is useful if you're a Fruity user. Just thought I'd point that out.

Yeah Recycle and Reason work very well together, chop em up and move em about, get in time, assign different sounds. You can either then map em out in Reason or Rewire with Cubase for a more flexabile approach esp if using midi.
Or if you use a different sequencer export the file in a formatt more suited to that or for conversion.
The breakbeat loops with Reason are ok very usefull for using as templates for then assigning different/your own original sounds esp if using drX loop player.
If you want .rex file's just load any drum loops/samples into Recycle and export till your hearts content.
Plz if any of the above info is wrong plz don't castrate me but has been a while since I have worked that way
