Couple of quick questions if I may:

1) Are there any applications or whatever which can actually rip and store the vocals from songs? I want to be able to filter out all of the music but keep the vocals.

2) Is there a program or a straightforward means of working out the BPM of a song?

I apologise if the first question is a bit naughty, so please forgive me - I know not what I do - it's not as though I'm gonna be able to release anything!!(although if the quality is good, then I will approach the artist(s) involved to seek permission etc. etc. to cover my back).

1) Impossible

2) Count how many beats comes in 10 seconds, then multiply it with 6, so you get how many beats is in 60 secons -> Beats Per Minute.

1. whispering is right, unless you have the actual vocal track, you can't get it out of the track.

2. Either count,or download a bpm counter. It usually works by clicking something on the beat and it'll tell you what the bpm is.

If you have an instrumental of the track that is the same as the vocal track just minus the vocals, cant you invert the wave, apply it to the top and they'll cancle out? I've never tried it, but I know I've read about that somewhere. :)

There are plug-ins out there, how well they work is questionable. Here's a free DX one to play with - http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/vremover.htm - I think you can remove the musik... I know you can remove the vocals... it will give you an idea of what software is capable of.

Hope that helps :)

Ok, I'm on a friends computer and AOL won't let me paste. BUT! Go to hitsquad and do a search for DJ BPM counters. They have some automatic calculators that you dont have to click, and give graphical readouts. Good luck.
