I have a "S" shaped tone arm but I thinking of getting a straight tone arm.

I wonder what your opinions are of them both and which ones do you prefer?

NOTE : I have numark TT1650's

This has given me an idea. I want a Z shaped tone arm! Actually.... a Q shaped one would be cool too.

Seriously though.
Aren't straight tone arms supposed to be good for scratching?

straight tone arms are much better for scratching and practically never jump. the force that's put on the record (if you were looking down on it) is up & down; where as the s shaped is left & right.

i prefer straight tone arms myself, just seems easier when doing tricks to needle drop quicker with a straight arm vs. an S.

S shaped were designed for disc jockey's around the 70's who only played records on them and that was it; scratching didn't come about until a decade later.

I have a straight tone arm and prefer it for everything, it stays out of the way a lot easier when scratching, tweaking knobs and adjusting pitch. Of course, then when I use tables with the curved arms I usually hit the arm at least once at an inopportune time(such as right before I mix in a record) and this causes me just a few problems as you can probably guess.

I also perfer the straight tone arm for mostly every thing when I am djing even if i'm doing a set that I only plan to mix in! I still have no problem with the S-shaped one just prefer the Straight one!!!

yep same here i only use the strate arms i hav ttx1's and the only difference in my opinion is sound quality s shaped sits in the groove correctly and gives a much clearer sound, but its not that noticable that i would choose them over strate arms as i do a lot ov scratchin and there without doubt PERFECT for this job!!

hey pepps well to this conversation all i can say iz that i use the citronic PD-45 ultimas , the s shaped arm is great for the fact that scratchins is made effortless , and the technics 1210 mk-5 great for fluent mixes but the straighter arm causes problems with ma scratchin so i would say stick 2 the s shape ... catch u later peeps Fuzz

Sup fellow ravers , Well god knows what 2 say except that i couldn`t take it no more till i became hardcore !!!

I dunno I would say intermediate decks to be honest. I havent really been able to spend alot of dosh on some new ones, though since my split I going to spoil myself rotten and buy Technics 1210's to make me feel better

So if anyone wants some Numark TT1650's (good condition) brand new styli's not used. £175 for the pair.
