If I were you i would just get some average decks n mixer to see how you like it then if you do get some 1210s
Thats how i stared out, just bought some gemini's off a mate, had em for about a year then got bored with it, sold em (records too) n bought a midi keyboard n a copy of cubase.
The mixing thing just was'nt for me, i prefer creating but everybodys different so try it out. Im just saying its not worth spending a grand on something you might get bored of.
[The ones i bought off the mate cost me £400, that was for two gemini (cant remember what at the mo) decks, a numark mixer (pretty decent one at that), amp n speakers.]

Smile, be happy, be hardcore!

IMHO, if you're looking for a good decent starter setup go for turntables, Stanton and Gemini make good tables, I started out with a Stanton STR8-60, a Gemini XL-DD50 and a Stanton SK-5 mixer. The Stanton table I got for $180 and the Gemini for about the same. The Stanton mixer was $150. Also get good needles and headphones, I've found that the Shure 3C35C needles are the best price/quality I've found. Good Luck :)
