It's *supose* to keep the needle from skating/skipping accross the record. Basicly, the tone arm has slight pull and wants to be on the arm it rests on, anti skate adj's the pull of the tone arm twards its rest/home posistion... kinda hard to explain, but I hope that made sense. :)
