Okay guys, this is a test of your tolerance. Okay, im admittedly not the hugest happy hardcore fan in the world, but its what i grew up with, and still holds a special place in my heart. I've been adrift from the scene for a good while, but for a good reason. About 6 years ago, i started dabbling in metal subgenres.
Remember the first time that your parents heard you playing hardcore, and they were like 'what the hell is this crap?', well thats exactly how i felt the first time i ever heard, say, cannibal corpse(tomb of the mutilated '92, godfathers, along with morbid angel, of todays modern death metal), but the more i listened, the more i got into it. I started listening to other bands, and other subgenres, and slowly but surely, my hardcore, trance, and techno cd's started getting played less and less.
I thought, for a while, that 'all that hardcore is crap'. I went through a period like that for, say, about 6-7 months, but i started listening to my old stuff, just outta curiosity, and it was frightening how much i enjoyed it. I started seeing similarities in musical style, between harder metal variants (i.e. grindcore's treble and bass battles, death metals 'out of this world' vocals, amopngst other things). So now im a proud techno derived and metal derived fanboy.
Anyone else into metal and the likes?
PS, and before anyone asks, im not a mosher.

yup totally mate. I used to be in 5 bands and have done 3 european tours, a US tour and a asia tour. then i started djing of course, but even though i listen to hardcore and drum and bass, it is still nice to listen to a bit of Raging Speedhorn or Ministry at times.
Good to have a all round taste
:D

Yeah reveal to us the band names.
I like the genres myself, prefer thrash slightly over speed though.

WOW! Even Dave broadening his music!
I can't stand the poppy/grunge/punky stuff, got to be the hard stuff for me! a bit of thrash metal, or speed metal.
One other thing I prefer is proper vocals, not someone screaming (I can't stand that!!!!)

electro/nu metal is cool (like static-X), but I prefer Death metal above all.
Also like other styles of music like Oi! and straight-edge (sXe) Hardcore. But I still prefer hardcore(-techno). What made me appreciate Metal was speedcore and terror. In those trax they often use guitar samples from metal bands

well you cant have metal music without screaming. It is a main part to many genres.
I mean i used to do vocals but i love screaming, people ****ing love that when you are screaming fast with huge guitar riffs and hard solos, while they are going round in a massive pit.
I cant stand things like shitty nu-metal crap. that isnt metal that is POP. Real metal is Iron Maiden (which i have since twice), RSH, Ministry, AC/DC and Metallica (the old skool stuff)

You say you like the screaming metal, but the example of bands you give like Iron Maiden don't scream, that's proper music. Nu metal is crap, and so to be honest is Metallica......St. Anger makes me cringe!!! and the Metallica boys as a whole I can't stand, there views on copyright and other things is beyond wierd! but anyway back to screaming vocals, I don't like them, the odd snarl, and growl though is ok.
