I know I made another topic on this a while ago but I think this is important.
One of the most basic and the most important features on this site isn't working, the search function!
I think many people come on here just for the big knowledge base that these forums hold, and I know that more people than me have problems doing searches. For me the searchfunction hasn't been working in months.
And I'm not only going to come here and complain, I have some suggestions too, however they are all based on that the reason for the errors is that the database is to big (this is what I think cause I used to be able to get the search function to work buy narrowing down my search).
So maybe I'm all wrong here, I'm not a programmer...
1. Do a cleanup of the forums . Probably the best long term solution, surley there is alot of junk topics that noone cares about, alot of work though.
2. Incearase the search timeout - would work for a time i guess.
3. Add an "search only in first post" option - now the only choices are "entire message" or "subject only".
4. Make it possible to search for whole phrases AND single words at the same time by putting the phrases between " "'s - Maybe it already work this way?
5. Make it possible to search in a specific time interval - not just 2 months ago etc.
6. Put a little tutorial underneath the search panel telling people how to narrow down their searches, but searching in just one part of the forums or in a specific time interval.

Thanks for your comments, I am currently under a mountain of work, I understand the problems you are talking about, anyone want to apply as a development MOD?
