I've been a vinyl DJ for 11 years and have always knocked CD dj's and decks down

but having taken the time and really checking out what is about and what they do (and having a better look in some music equipment shops)

CDJ 1000 mk2 have taken my eye, the technics cd decks (which are the cd version of SL1200's!!) are also looking mighty fine too..

I would say though with the availability of home dub plate cutters and home made vinyl machines coming that vinyl has far from lost its place and will be around for a long long time yet... I would say its going to be another 10years before vinyl has been laid to rest and cd's totally take over.

alot of DJ's I know get one of the CD decks and put some of their own samples and choonz on CD and take the deck with them to mix in with their vinyl

I got my first CDJ100S for my birthday of 2003. That was back in october. The main reasons I got it, was for two reasons. 1) I produce my own tunes and 2) I started getting a lot of promos. So until I got a CDJ, there was no way to accomplish both of those.

In my opinion, the CDJ100S is perfect. Anything higher should only be used by high payed artists like Sy (he uses the 1000 I believe). The low price of $300 in comparison to $1000 is a big one. This does all of the simple stuff. You can cue, "push" and, "pull" the record to get it in mach with the other tune. And you have three effects. The JET is a flanger type effect that you can change the perameters by just using the jog dial while activated. WAH uses a filter effect on the track. Turning counter-clockwise decreases the highs and mids. As turning it clockwise decrease the lows and low-mids. The last effect is the hardest to use. It's somewhat of a pitch shifter. I just use it for stopping effects (making it sound like you press the stop button on the turntable).

Overall, I'd deffinatly buy this great machine. Although, you might want to think if it's really worth it to you. You can also keep in mind that a lot of CD Box Sets now have unmixed discs in them to use on the CDJ.

I've got a CDJ 800 and i must admit to not using half the features on it. To be honest i might have been better off with something like a CDJ100 instead.

Ah well!

I'm very interesting in getting a pair of CD decks, but it came to my attention that most clubs/raves don't really use them that much.

I'd like to be wrong, can somebody prove me wrong?

lately CDJs have been popping up all over the top clubs but they always have decks there too. I guess its only a matter of time before everyone buys them and vinyl isnt the big thing any more...

Well, I guess if you can mess with a turntable, you can use the CDJ's pretty easily

Most clubs I've been to don't have them. I'd suspect in UK that'd be different. But people just don't expect up-comers to get promos.

if you wait a bit numark is coming out with a turntable that you load the cd into it. it has a record on top that you control like a normal record and it moves in sync with the cd.

Most club's and venues I frequent now all have CD-R's if they don't have them you can always ask for them to be setup as they should have them.
