Hey, I'm kinda new to happy hardcore, I guess. I've been listening to it for years, but now I want to start making some myself. does anyone have any suggestions for gear that a n00b like me could use no problem and get fairly cheap...being broke sucks and paying for a car doesn't help...

i know how you feel, no really I do,
what I did was I bought a DJ packge the GemSound SK-10 mix master, complete package for about $200, it comes with 2 BJL1150 belt drive turntables and a DJ-M1 2 channel mixer, now all thats left for you is some speakers and an amp and start mixing, then later when you get the feel you for mixing and you can last with it, then you can upgrade your equipment little by little, thats what im doing
at the monent im looking for a new better mixer,
as for hardcore production, thats still new to me and i have no idea how its done, but im looking
(now thinking of new translation)

theres loads of programs you can use for production. Best thing to do is check the demos and see what you like best. I like CUBASE myself but most people just strating seem to like FRUITYLOOPS. allso theres REASON, LOGIC, ACID, and a few more but those seem to be the most popular

Hey I'm broke as a joke and I've been making tracks for years with BUZZ, it's a free program...it's like a whole studio in one, you do the production AND the mastering on it, so it's quite complicated. But it's more powerful than reason and fruity loops, if you can harness it then it will do you good. It's a lot like the trackers of old like MOD Tracker, Impulse Tracker and stuff.
The next cheapest proggy is Fruity Loops. ($150 US I'm guessing)
And then I think it's Reason. ($400 US I'm guessing)
You may have to get some mastering software for Fruity and Reason but you should just get started on those first and get used to them. And for all of them if you want to use VSTs you have to buy them too.
I'm suggesting software because real gear costs a lot more as far as I know. btw the simplest and easiest program to use is probably Fruity Loops, but reason is real easy to use too.

I've used both.
But like I said it makes it really hard to use because you have to know a lot about engineering and mastering. The tradeoff is ease of use, compared to raw capabilities. I mean, Acid is easy to use but not that powerful, you are restricted in many ways. Once you try BUZZ you'd feel the same with reason.

Yeah I wrote an article on music production on home computers and I ended with the point that whatever you are most comfortable with is the best program to use. If someone has been using Fruity for years, they don't neccarily have to jump to reason, Pro Tools, or Cubase because they can do more...quality tunes rely on quality (and experienced) musicians, not on the software. So rather than learning the latest and newest programs as they come out, it's better to become a master of the software you are currently using. Some of the best rave music ever created were done 4 Channel Amigas...
